ACTORS and CREW needed for FEATURE in TOYKO

Postby myothercarisajumpsuit » Tue Jul 06, 2004 6:57 pm

hi there,
newbie to the group. coming to tokyo in nov
to write -then next year shoot - a film. looking for japanese actors, non-actors, models, (no experience necessary), etc. anyone know of a japanese casting agency or a free database on net?

i need one japanese young man (between 20-40) equivalent of tobey mcguire
in that he is awkward, weak, slightly geeky, but not over the top.

need two japanese young ladies (between 20-40). no particulars yet.

others (sorry-japanese only) also needed for supporting roles.
if you have a suggestions please don't hesitate to contact me.

film info: narrative fable dramedy feature film.
the mood of the film is a mix of amelie, rushmore and the royal tenenbaums.
slightly cartoony. very clean, sharp, color-savvy images.

eventually also looking for small film crew team.
composer, recordist/sound, lights, fashion, etc
(non-japanese of course ok)
contact me if interested

There are lots of film people on this board and around Tokyo. The word will get around. It would help if you have some more details.

Try writing your request to these two addresses:

tvug |at| yahoogroups.com - (Tokyo Video Users Group)
filmmarmalade |at| tokyo.com - (group of film people)

You might also try:

Akemi - http://www.tokyodv.com/actors/himawari.html
Ami - http://www.tokyodv.com/actors/ami.html
Anjela - http://www.tokyodv.com/actors/anjelakim.html

Last I heard, they were still in Tokyo.

Ah. I took
japanese actors, non-actors
as meaning 'gaijin'..

Good luck. Try the filmmarmalade email; there's a nice clump of Japanese in that group.. Art schools might be your best option.

Hey. Possibly useful sites:

http://www.film-com.jp/en

(film commissions in Japan)

http://kobefilm.jp

film@kcva.or.jp

(last 2 are the same organization; they may know something!)

IF you`ve got the cash to get a top quality sound man, email saxophonedave@hotmail.com. Or look up Rick Patton at Location Sound. Dave`s a `go-to` guy for difficult shoots, and is mostly on docs in the Far North now, but can travel farther... Rick has done sound for Altman. They`re located in Vancouver.

Sorry, most of my contacts are in Canada, but they shoot/record/etc. all over... and they`re only 10 hours away!

I`ve got some experience as a sound assistant and 3rd, but I`m not up to speed for a big shoot. My cable-wrapping is shite. I`m OK as a PA, though (I think...)

I think you should be talking a bit of story now, though... It can get people excited about your project and attract talent and maybe money. Your call, I guess. All for today!

Hey Jumpsuit,

Do you need an editor? I've worked as editor in commercials/tv/film for the last 10 years. I have also worked in Japan. I'm not in Japan now, but I am willing to travel! Email me.

Is your film going to be shot in Japanese or English?

There are also a heap of talented people in Japan who are of asian descent but are not necessarily Japanese.

The FG members that I know of who are true experts on filming in Japan (besides GuyJean) are Rob Pongi and bikkle. PM any of those guys (especially ultra) for additional information. I know for a fact that ultra has experience directing films, shooting them in Tokyo, and employing J-actors.

If you film my face and my cock in the same frame I'll have to charge you twice since you're getting not one but two incredible works of beauty.

Just got this in my mailbox
Dear FCCers

It's hard to find an industry that attracts more attention these days
than the movie industry. Both here in Japan and abroad, Japanese films
or films influenced by Japan are winning both at the box office and in
film reviews. On July 20, join the FCC for a behind-the-scenes look into
the world of film production featuring our guest speaker, Mr. John
Harford Williams of 100 MeterFilms.

John has been living and working in Japan since 1988. He's produced and
directed 8 films, including a documentary shot in Sri Lanka and a
documentary/drama about refugees in Japan. In 2000, he produced and directed
the Japanese feature film Firefly Dreams (Japanese title: Ichiban
Utsukushii Natsu), earning a slew of awards including: the 21st Hawaii
International Film Festival best feature film Golden Maile award (2001);
Best Cinematographer Miura award from the Japanese Society of
Cinematographers (2001); and Nomination for Best New Director from the Japanese
Society of Directors (2001).

John established 100 MeterFilms in 1995. He and his team produce
quality Japanese feature films for the domestic and international markets,
and are currently developing a slate of projects with young Japanese
directors.

So sign up for what promises to be yet another fascinating and
insightful dinner with FCC.

Speaker: John Williams, Company Representative of 100 MeterFilms

Date: Tuesday, 20 July 2004

Time: Reception from 6:30 to 7:00pm, Dinner at 7:00pm, Speaker
