a travesty of the time continuum

Rob Pongi wrote:Mr. Sparkle: 'OK finally, I would like to thank you all for coming out tonight and checking out my new book Motion Graphics and Effects in Final Cut Pro does anybody have any questions?

KYODO NEWS Japanese Reporter: Ah, yes Mr. Monahan-san, I really think your new book is the ultimate publication for video effects editing and I really think that.....

Suddenly Evil Pongi (who is Rob Pongi wearing the Evil Pongi outfit) jumps up and YELLS: SHUT THE F*CK UP YOU DINGBAT URINALIST!!! I HAVE A QUESTION! AND I DEMAND AN ANSWER RIGHT NOW!!!! WHO ARE YOU? (pointing at Mr. Sparkle up front).....

Of course, the Truth is that all this has already happened and now Dr. Stevie B. will have to squeeze through the AK Time Tunnel to correct this travesty of the time continuum.

It seems that after you write a book, you're pretty
much on your own regarding promotion.

I'm actually trying to shop around for a publisher in
Japan. It was the only major language that will
not have a version of the book. The Korean and the
Chinese versions will come out soon, actually. If anyone
knows any publishers, please tell them to come to
my presentation.

I'm going to edit a documentary while I'm there, so
hopefully that is rationale enough to hit Japan during
the miserably hot weather.

Well - that - and uh, if you can line up any of yer single
"Gomi Friends", then that would be greatly appreciated!

I dunno as I just got the word. I have the whole month of August blocked out to do the doc, though. I have to be back in SF on 8-30.

BTW, today my book surpassed all other books in the Final Cut Pro category on Amazon. I even dethroned the official Apple Training Series book, which has been at the top of the heap for months.

Congratulations!

I would buy a copy, but one of my keepers says I'm not allowed to get Final Cut Pro because I would find it too distracting

Final Cut is the ideal distraction software - but at least you're creating stuff and making yourself happy.

Your keepers are prob'ly only upset that it'll take away time from your bass playin'.

Meet For Post-Presentation Suds?

Postby mr. sparkle » Mon Jul 19, 2004 10:20 am

San-Q Robato-Sama.

OK. Now that the date is set ( Aug. 18 ), should we have a Wed. night drinkin' session nearby the Apple Store after the presentation?

Where's there a suitable pub near the Apple Store? I've always wanted to drink at Popeye Ji-beer and Cocktails Bakusyu Club - is that too much of a mendokusai from Yurakucho station? I think it's near Ryoogoku Sobu station. Any place that serves a cold pint is OK with me.

Dang, I got stomped on again in the rankings. Usually I get smoked, but once in a while I beat the official books for a day or two. It's a good feeling to win the rankings race once in a while, considering that all the marketing dough goes there and all the marketing for my book is usually from personal banging of the drum on forums, doing personal appearances, etc.

Which reminds me, I'm getting my ticket today.

Mr. Sparkle's Seminar

Postby mr. sparkle » Wed Jul 21, 2004 4:43 am

Dude,
Yer makin' me nervous with that bev teetering so close to the CPU. 8O

Hey Everyone--

As part of my "invasion", I'm also trying to put together a FCP "Master's Class" Seminar on Saturday, August 21. I am thinking a weekend day would be best.

I have two options regarding rooms for the seminar. Which do you think would be better?

1) Pink Cow
OR
2) Super Deluxe

Image
Super Deluxe

If anyone wants to assist me with the seminar in Tokyo, PM me. I'm looking for Mac heads that can do a bit of J/E.

Also could use some advice on promotion and pricing for the day-long seminar. Is Y20,000 about right? Where should I post/promote about the seminar? I guess handbills at my Apple Store appearance would help, no? I'd like to fill this seminar well before then, though. Web sites? Apple Japan Video Club sites?

Thanks Gang! 8)

Lost in Translation

Postby mr. sparkle » Fri Jul 23, 2004 7:59 am

Ugh. My Nihongo is terribly limited and I need to put out a press release in Japanese and onto the Apple Discussion Boards.

Can anyone help me with a translation of the following?:

Do you want to make great looking video effects using Final Cut Pro? If so, plan to attend a unique "Masters Course" based upon the popular new book, "Motion Graphics and Effects in Final Cut Pro" taught by the author and Final Cut Pro master, Kevin Monahan.

The class will be held in the Roppongi area of Tokyo on August 21 from 10:00-18:00. The cost will be Y25,000 for the day-long seminar.

As space is limitied, be sure to email us at tellysworld[at]netscape.net to make a reservation as soon as possible. You can also pay in advance for the course, if you like. For more information, go to this webpage: http://www.fcpworld.com/edittrain.htm

In advance of the class, please go here to buy the book: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0321179153/wwwfcpworldco-20.

Kevin Monahan will also be speaking at the Tokyo Apple Store on August 18 at 19:00 as part of the Final Cut Pro User Night. Go to http://www.fcpworld.com for a map and more details.

Any other standard greetings and closings would be appreciated. Thanks gang!

P.S. I already have a posting on mandy.com

http://www.mandy.com/1/event2.cfm?v=7973714

Not sure how much good this will do me - but it's a start.
