Japan's aid mission in Iraq very disappointing: local council head
SAMAWAH, July 25, Kyodo - The top official of the governing council of Iraq's Muthana Province expressed strong disappointment with Japan's reconstruction efforts, complaining Japan is not using enough of its advanced technology in a recent interview with Kyodo News.
The assistance from the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force in the province's capital of Samawah ''is significantly below our expectations,'' council chairman Ahmed Marzoq said. ''The activities are not that of a country with advanced technologies.''
''The type of aid Japan should be providing is infrastructure development such as electricity and water supplies as well as building factories,'' he said. ''If it is just simple work like renovating schools and buildings, we would like to flatly turn them down.''
