Is it cooling down, or am I dreaming?

Postby Big Booger » Mon Aug 23, 2004 6:43 pm

The past few days have seemed not so hot as the previous weeks.. is this just a state of confusion? Temporary? Or is it really cooling down? It barely reached 30 where I am at today.. and at night it drops down to around 23-24...

This has been the hottest summer I've ever lived through.

AK for some reason this summer seems to beat the record setting 1995. I lived through that one, but this summer just flat out wore me down. And to make matters worse, the family and I decided to go to Tokyo last week for a little R&R. Little did we know that the temperature would shoot up to 36.5 last Friday. What an oven. Taro and all you other Tokyoites, I don't know how you do it. I was there for only 3.5 days and the constant hot and cold was hard to take. That cannot be healthy. On a side note, I wanted to contact some of you FG and meet you in person, but didn't want to intrude on anyone. Maybe next time. This might sound a little grandios, but wouldn't be cool to try and get as many FG together at once and not online. If you gave enough of us inaka people warning maybe we could make it down, or up whichever.

This summer was worse of my life, except for company of all you folks of course.

To beat the heat in '95, I checked into the delux company hospital across from my office for the summer: Private room, sports rehab weightroom, pool, hot tub, and kinky intern nurses. I called it CLUB DEAD.

Speaking of heat, this is the sticker on all Japanese Coke machines warning against leaving "can bottles" in the car. It's so hot in Japan, the new aluminum "can bottle" can explode. 8O

Yeah, right.
Perhaps they should put stickers on cars telling these idiots not to leave their kids in cars while they play mindless pachinko to the tune of even more mindless music!

Wonder how many kids died this year in pachinko parking lots?
:jawdrop:

PS..I have not seen it this hot here in over 20 years either.

Winter in Kanto and summer in Hokaido is the ideal.
The road to the abyss.

Huh?

Postby djgizmoe » Tue Aug 24, 2004 7:54 am

Maybe it's the fact that I've moved to this corner of Shizuoka (and by a river), but this is the coolest summer either my (Japanese) wife or I have ever experienced in Japan. There was only like one day it was so hot we needed the aircon, which was pretty amazing. Nothing like any of my hell summers in Aichi. However, we were subject to two or three freak thunderstorms that seemed to hit only this small corner of Shizuoka. Right now it's so grey and cool outside that I'm thinking of wearing long sleeves today...

I didn't time moving into a new apartment and having no air-con very well did I?

However maybe it's because of that that I haven't felt it was too bad heat wise - I've gotten used to it.

Had to wear a jacket yesterday!

(Probably helps that I grew up in Adelaide where the temp hits over 40 often)

That's unacceptable. I'll be arriving then and have no interest in heat. Please see that this error is corrected before my arrival.

Thanks.

As I mention before in an FG thread couple months ago, you could get this Sony Suit.

TOKYO, AFP / JAPAN Tokyo 25 August 2004: A man wears a jacket with two built-in electric fans to keep cool on his body at downtown . Japanese venture PC2B, established by former Sony engineer Hiroshi Ichigaya, has sold a combined 6,500 "air-conditioned" outfits -- 3,000 prototype jackets as well as 3,500 short-sleeved shirts, since Internet sales began on June 15.

It's cooling down. Last night I slept with my windows open and woke up in the middle of the night thinking "oh no, did I fall asleep with the a/c on again? Then I realized, "hey, I'm actually cold. Yippie! I'm cold! With the window open! Then I got a blanket from the closet, snuggled up in my wonderful fresh-air coldness, and slept a happy sleep.
