Two totally naked Caucasian men aged in their 30s were found dead after apparently failing from the 47th floor of Keio Plaza hotel in Shinjuku this morning.
Their clothes were folded neatly and left with their shoes on the 47th floor!
Sounds strange that, they would fold their clothes up neatly before jumping.

The police are looking at the case from the angle of suicide and the possibility that foul play may be involved.

Leaving shoes neatly arranged is the JAPANESE style of jumping. No clothes is rare. Wild speculation....???? It could be Yakuza hit for an extramartial affair since Keio Plaza is famous for flings and callgirls now.

There's another, darker scenario bandied about by Japan's yakuza gangs. ...Identities of the two men, who were both dead when police arrived on the scene, remain unknown.
Both men are believed to have been in their 20s.
Police said that pedestrians reported hearing loud noises at that time and found their bodies on a road in front of the Keio Plaza Hotel.
The police later found their clothes and shoes on the emergency balcony on the 47th floor of the hotel.
Both had died instantly upon hitting the ground. The incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m.

Notwithstanding speculation, we still don't know who these two guys are. There is no interest in the Japanese media pressing for this information but I'm surprised that there hasn't been more foreign press interest. It is understandable that authorities would want to keep identities private until the families have been notified but I'm wondering how much we will get to hear about this incident once the initial shock value has gone.

The only tidbits I can glean from my daily visit to the cobini reading room is one was thought to be a Frenchman who had stayed at the hotel a few times before.

The previous day the two had been down to the pool and were seen eating at a local French restaurant until about 8:00 PM.

Apparently one of them had asked the front desk for a morning wake up call saying he had a breakfast meeting arranged.

One of the 2 persons who jumped was my brother (and we are not French) but as I do not speak any Japanese, I cannot search Japanese websites to find more information. I would appreciate any help on information about what they have been doing during their last days. And by the way, the gay story is not correct either.

In English, everything has been posted here. The Japanese scandel sheets said "French".

IF you think it was foul play, tell our resident journalist Marvin with the Mainichi News (Japan's 3rd? largest paper). We've been assuming (and joking) that their deaths have been ignored out of request of the families.

The causes so far are: gay suicide, bad drug trip or Yakuza hit. Do any of these make any sense to you? What was your brother's reason for being in Tokyo that would have him naked jumping off a luxury hotel?

The Sports Nippon newspaper, not generally a reputable source, reported in Japanese HERE on the 9th August that the men had German passports. The article also mentions a short note left behind in English and no reports of drug use. It says that reports from the family in Germany say that the two were childhood friends, travelling together but that they did not know that the two were in Japan.
I would think that if identities have been confirmed then the police should be in touch with the families and the local embassy should be involved. If this is not happening, then the families should be contacting the embassy to get clarification.
The families should be in a better position to obtain information than us but, as Guy Jean suggests, as a community we might be able to offer some background context. If the two men arrived on the 2nd, though, and if it was their first time in Japan then there is less chance that we would have crossed paths with them. The more we know, the better we can help but I think we would all be reluctant to press a family member at such a distressing time.
Even the Japanese weekly magazines have written little on this issue since not much information has so far been made public.

I see I caused some confusion. We have already been contacted by the embassy and the police, the bodies have already returned "home", we also had a funeral. There was no foul play, we found a suicide note in his room here at home. He was a student. It is just that, as his sister, I will keep on asking what he has been doing during his last days for the rest of my life...
