KOBE -- A 38-year-old woman taking part in an eating competition died after she choked on bread, police said.

Cripes, didn't anyone try the Heimlech Maneuver on her? The fact that she died of choking with that many people there who could have helped her is tragic.

At the dozen or so accident scenes in Japan I've been at, EVERYONE stands around looking the other way. Nobody offers help: expect to die.

First aid does not seem to be taught in school...hell it has been only 10 years since Japanese ambulance drivers could take EMT classes.
