Apartment floor collapses from weight of old magazines
Mainichi
A Tokyo apartment floor has collapsed from the weight of old magazines and newspapers piled up over 20 years, police said.

The six-tatami mat room on the second floor collapsed in Tokyo's Toshima-ku at about 8 p.m. on Sunday, and firefighting officials rescued the 56-year-old tenant shortly after.

The 75-year-old man who lives in the apartment on the first floor felt nervous after he heard the ceiling squeak, so he fled from the room to alert the local Mejiro Police Station....the rest...

This sounds like a good time to plug one of my old online videos. A couple of years ago, I recorded a video story called "katazukerarenai onnatachi," literally translated as "women who can't clean their houses." The video shows a woman who lives in an apartment with several tons of newspapers and manga stacked up until there's no place to even get into the room, she sleeps in a little cubbyhole near the door. The apartment walls bulge outwards from the weight of the collected junk, the floors would have collapsed if it wasn't a ground floor apartment.

Click here to watch the video.

Explains why it's straight then.....
