The town I'm leaving behind (Utsunomiya, Tochigi Ken) is only famous for gyoza.

Here's one of the many shops:

There's even a gyoza statue behind JR station:

Anything quirky in your town?

Sorry about the crap photography

Try uploading them here instead:

I think angelfire blocks things if they are being pulled from another site (like if you post images on this board that are hosted on angelfire...)

Thanks, mate.

Apparently if you click on the logos you can see the pics.

Bleeding hell, computers! I feel like I'm in the scene in Zoolander when they are trying to get the computer files out. Doh!

I can't see them when I click on the angelfire images... I just get a new tab in Firefox with a small version of the angelfire image. :(

Have some nihon shu for me! I'm stuck at work... I can not say how much I am looking forward to the wrapup of this project.

Yomiuri: 'Gyoza City' opens theme park
Gyoza, a popular dish typically made from ground pork, is served at almost all restaurants in Utsunomiya, which has earned the nickname "Gyoza City." To add to its reputation as a mecca for the dumplings, Utsunomiya opened on July 30 a theme park, named Utsunomiya Gyoza Kyowakoku (republic), along National Highway Route 4, about two kilometers from the downtown area...The Utsunomiya Chamber of Commerce hopes 800,000 visitors will visit the complex annually, especially from outside Tochigi Prefecture. It attracted about 8,000 visitors in the first two days...more...

There is a live webcam running on the site from 11:00 to 21:00 daily...

Just about any oriental market carries them frozen as well as fresh outer wrappers. Hell, even the hicksville supermarkets in places like Hastings Neb., Malvern Ark. and Niwot Colorado carry them fresh---Whatz up with London?

Back in the dark ages, 1960s gyoza were called "pot stickers" and were made with ravioli skins---not bad really. Nowadays, you can always borrow a pasta machine and make the proper thin style wrappers.

There has been a mishap. Workmen were asked to move the statue from the east exit to the west exit of the station as part of a remodelling. The crane they were using became unbalanced and dropped it with the following result:

This was on quite of few news broadcasts last night. Although the casters didn't have much to say either way, there were more than a few locals that were not happy with them dropping their famous land mark...

Saw that Venus de Gyoza statue a few years back. Was completely disappointed. The damn thing is (was) about 4 feet tall (I had this vision in my head of a giant 10 meter stainless steel gyoza that I could sit atop of). They didn't need a crane to move it, a flock of elementary school kids could have moved the damn thing.

Must not have been an unfixable break, although it does look like she's holding her crack!

She looks like she's looking up at the sky for the bird that just took a dump on her head after someone kicked her in the stomach rupturing her spleen. Perfect image for the world.
