NTT: Reach out and touch-n-smell someone

Postby Taro Toporific » Mon Nov 25, 2002 9:31 am

Today's print edition of the the ITH/Asahi announces NTT's Smello-Vision and Feelies"for your 3G phone...
just like John Waters' scratch-and-sniff Odorama movie "Polyester", or the Smello-Vision and "The Tickler" film experiments of the 1950s.
"NTT planning a touchy-feely Net"
The company hopes to use broadband tech to bring us the future in living clor with added whisters, bells and smells.
...
NTT plans to market products that engage the senses of smelll. The scent or feel of an object..can be picked up by sensors and turned into digital signals for transmission to the recipient's end, where the original sensation can be recreated.
---from the Asahi Shinbun's website at: http://www.asahi.com/english/business/K2002112500223.html

Ohhhhh :-o Look forward to fart-scented spams from your annoying ex-roommate from college.

But ya gotta love gimmicks, like the 1981 'Odorama' scratch-and-sniff card for the 'art' film, Polyester...

Uuuuum, whatever NTT's smokin', I want some.. Or can I at least smell it.

This coming from the company that was pushing ISDN for 5 years.

Their billions of research yen would be better spent creating Internet controlled vibrators or pocket pussies.. Now THERE'S an idea!!

Shmell-o-vision. That's so 50's.. How long did it take for them to come up with this beakthrough plan?. Fifty years?
