Kyodo via Yahoo: Lawson opens store at University of Tokyo
Major convenience store operator Lawson Inc. opened a store at the University of Tokyo on Thursday, the first 24-hour convenience store on a national university campus. The new store is located just north of Yasuda Auditorium on the university's Hongo campus in Tokyo's Bunkyo Ward. Outgoing University of Tokyo President Takeshi Sasaki cut the ribbon at the store's opening ceremony before leaving office the same day. "We hope to sell ballpoint pens and mugs with the University of Tokyo logo on them in the future," a university official said. The store is housed in a renovated brick warehouse originally built in 1937.
