What the hell happened?

Postby cliffy » Fri Apr 08, 2005 10:41 am

I changed to mozilla and my system went into melt down! If I tried to dial up the 'net as I signed on my whole puter powered off, then re-booted, my mouse is working fitfuly and I have just had to reset just about every setting to get back on line.
Buggered if I can work it out but I am working on win XP/IE at the moment, no I have no virus/s or new progs that have appeared magicaly.

Anybody care to hazzard a probable cause? Microcrash cannot be the better way 8O and I can't change to Apple at this point :(

What do you mean "rebooted"? Do you mean blue screen, or actually resetting? That's usually a sign of a bad driver or memory errors.

Do you mean you simply installed mozilla or that you tried to delete IE as well?

If it's only the former, then as far as I know there should be no problems:
First of all - none of the Mozilla products are listed on Microsoft site as software having problems after installation of Service Pack 2 for Windows XP.

* In Windows SP2 the internal firewall is strengthened and enabled by default. Check that Mozilla Suite is set as an exception and is allowed to connect.
* If that does not help - try making a new profile
* If that does not help - try to reinstall Mozilla Suite

Where did you download Mozilla from?

I mean a total power off, 3 second delay, power up, reboot as if I was turning on from fresh, loss of any changes/settings (me screaming F**KOFF) and no internet access :?

I have just had the same problem just after I posted this thread and have done a total wipe reinstall (X2) to get back to square one.
And I did find remains of a virus after the first wipe so the bugger was there

I downloaded firefox/mozilla from the main site, I think it was coincidental, I'll find out when I do it again
