MDN: Politician sues local gov't for 1.5 mil. yen over photo of him 'asleep'

The speaker of the Ome Municipal Assembly in western Tokyo has filed a compensation suit against the city for carrying a photo in a public relations bulletin of him appearing to be dozing. In the suit filed with the Tokyo District Court's Hachioji branch, Speaker Yoshio Nakamura is demanding that the Ome Municipal Government pay 1.5 million yen damages and the bulletin carry an apology. The March 15 issue of the city bulletin carried a photo of Mayor Toshio Takeuchi speaking at the municipal assembly room in February. Speaker Nakamura, 77, could be seen in the photo with his eyes closed..."I want to clarify a reason why the city would use such a problematic photo," Nakamura said. "Although I closed my eyes at that time, I was deep in thought, not sleeping."
