Sony to screw PSP buyers in UK

Postby Taro Toporific » Sat Jun 25, 2005 7:05 am

Sony denies seeking PSP customer data
Tech News on ZDNet, 24 June 2005
...Sony is getting firm with online retailers that participate in what it calls "parallel importing" of PSP products from the U.S. and Japan. Sony president David Reeves told Gamesindustry.biz that the company sent more than 600 letters asking individuals and companies to stop selling import PSP devices on eBay.
The PSP, a $249.99 portable console for playing video games and movies, is already on sale in Japan and the United States. Shipments in to the United Kingdom were delayed by about six months to make sure the company had enough for its U.S. launch....

I believe that the kind of argument that Sony is trying to make has been rejected by the English High Court before, most recently in Zino Davidoff S.A. v A & G Imports Limited.

As the law stands now, I think that if no clear restrictions are placed on the resale of the goods first put on the market outside the UK, then it is inferred that the trade mark owner implicitly consents to the importation of those goods into the UK.
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

If you can get something before everyone else then go for it. The PSP doesnt come out in NZ untill September and it will be about NZ$500 (US$355). My brother got one from Japan about a month or two ago for NZ$250. Fuck if they are going to screw all the smaller markets with inflated prices and late releases then its their own fault.
