Do any schools in countries other than the US even require TOEFL? A couple of years ago, we sent some people for study in the UK and the people I contacted about requirements at that time said that there were only three schools in the UK that used TOEFL and those were more or less, as a reference only, rather than a requirement for foreign students.

This was at the University level about four or five years ago. The British Counsel said they used their own tests in lieu of TOEFL and SAT tests.

Definitely in Italy, Spain etc...just applied for a job as a TOEFL teacher there...

Absolutely TOEFL is an international standard as far as I know. Both for programmes taught in english at my home univeristy (Copenhagen) and in England where I will be studying from October..

Toefl I think is a good standard test, if a bit on the easy side in my opinion.

I know MBA programs all over Europe and Asia require TOEFL scores. The test if going to be very different and a lot more difficult starting in September of this year.

The reading comprehension passages are going to be longer and more difficult, there will be two essays instead of one, there will be written short answer questions based on things you have read and listened to, and there will be a speaking section. The speaking section is not a live interview, it's more like the Test of Spoken English. Test taker will listen to a recorded statement and then record a response.

Another huge change that is sure to affect all the East Asian grammar machines is the elimination of the structure section. Students structure score will be based on their writing and speaking. No more multiple choice grammar questions.
