Koizumi to push African farm self-sufficiency at G-8 summit

The Yomiuri Shimbun

Japan will send agriculture policy experts to African nations to help them develop farm policies that ensure food supply independence as part of proposals to be announced at the July Group of Eight summit meeting, officials said Saturday

Let me guess what they will advise them to do;

Parcel up the land into tiny unsufficent plots ensuring high prices, grow water-intensive crops like rice- this is especially good in places that have highly variable rainfall, liberally used herbacides and pesticides to ensure that they get into the food supply, prop up the uneconimical farms with massive subsidies and install massive agriculture trade barriers to ensure that you citizen are on the rope for you enlightened policies.

So a country that imports around 50% of its food is going to tech African countries to be independent?

Japan Stealth Technology used in Cherry Heist

Postby homesweethome » Mon Jun 20, 2005 8:53 pm

http://mdn.mainichi.co.jp/news/20050620p2a00m0dm007000c.html

The thieves plucked off some 70 kilograms of Sato-nishiki cherries, 20 kilograms of Takasago cherries and another 10 kilograms of Masamitsu-nishiki cherries Saturday night and Sunday.

Japanese Phase Shifter Stealth Technology Pilfered in Pursuit of Illegal Profit.

Advanced stealth technology has reportedly been stolen from secret Japanese military research and development centers and pilfered for use in illegitimate underground agricultural enterprises. The development of a heretofore undetectable mechanism, (capable of evading the visible spectrum), has been counterfeited for the purpose of search and seizure of legitimate cherry crops.

SAPPORO -- About 100 kilograms of ripe tomatoes were stolen from a glasshouse here, police said.

The tomatoes, worth about 18,000 yen, were stolen earlier this month from a glasshouse run by the Daichi company in Fukagawa, Hokkaido.

"I don't think it was a prank. At the same time I don't understand why they were stolen," said Daichi executive Akio Ishiyama. "The theft is an act that disturbs a peaceful, agricultural district here."

Disturbing the WA in rural Japan. Obviously the work of vicious gaijin terrorists, who else would go to such measures for 18,000 yen?

Agricultural theft is a problem worldwide, But I have always wondered what the thieves do with their haul. I mean you can't keep ripe tomatos too long and selling as backalley contraband doesn't seem hugely likely. :?

Not sure about other places but am sure that in Japan there must exist some kind of porn involving hundreds of tomatoes. That's where they must end up. It must be kinkier if the tomatoes are stolen.

You're right... isn't it more exciting if you don't have permission? :D

Why Japan Agriculture is Numero Ichiban

Postby homesweethome » Sat Jul 16, 2005 9:59 am

Everyone knows Japanese agriculture is world class number 1, To this we owe our debt of gratitude to the folks who bring you such economical and 'beautiful' produce. Ever wonder how they manage to do it?

Here are some reasons:

Image
No waste, so produce prices are always reasonable

Image
Hard working folks using the latest mechanization and labor saving techniques

Image
Always employing proper disposal and recycling

Image
Judicious and conservative use of environmentally hazardous pesticides and herbicides

Image
always Safety driving so rural living is always risk free

[iImage
carpooling

Image
Pre-harvest packaging. Revolution in marketing.

Image
Use of environmentally low impact materials, saving the worlds resources

Image
Use of natural materials as much as possible, foil mulch, a JA innovation

Image
an avid appreciation for the natural beauty of things found in nature

Image
high national educational standards bring about a farm population very sensative to environmental concerns

Image
Always in harmony with nature, never putting the desires of man before the natural surroundings

Image
Koizumi's approval creates high rural moral

Image
Local citizen involvement in keeping rural Japan free of harmful and malicious foreign agricultural products and influences

Image
Image
All this combined with just-in-time distribution to bring you agricultural produce at Everyday Low Prices

Wallmart, you can't hope to compete with the POWER of Japan Agriculture (JA)
You might as well pack your bags and go back to Bentonville

JA motto: Time is on our side, We are the future
