Forensic investigations zero in on gropers
Kerala news, Tuesday, December 13, 2005
OSAKA--
For the last decade, police in Tokyo have been using state-of-the-art forensic techniques to nab men who grope women on crowded trains. Now Osaka has gotten in on the act. Police investigators are using a technique to lift tiny traces of fabric fibers from a suspect's palm and match them with the victim's clothes. The evidence is so hard to refute that at least one suspect who was confronted with it retracted his denial and confessed on the spot.....
<big snip>
....Now acquittals are on the decline again. "When police investigate a molestation case, they have already made up their minds as to the suspect's guilt, based on the victim's complaint," a network official said. "They come in with a 'You did it, didn't you?' stance.

Poll: Mixed results for 'women-only' cars
Asahi
It's been a year since East Japan Railway Co. (JR East) introduced "women-only" cars on rush-hour trains to cut down on groping in metropolitan Tokyo.

Now first-year statistics are in--and JR officials are struggling to explain the mixed results.

At first glance, it appears the molestation situation is improving. All told, the Metropolitan Police Department made fewer arrests for groping and other unruly behavior on commuter trains in 2005 than the year before.

On the crowded JR Saikyo Line linking Osaki Station in central Tokyo to Omiya Station in Saitama Prefecture, which became notorious for sexual harassment, gropings dropped 25 percent.

But elsewhere, results are less encouraging. Despite adding women-only cars, the JR Chuo Line serving central Tokyo and Keio Electric Railway Co.'s Keio Line in western Tokyo both saw a rise in the incidence of groping....more...

Yesterday I had a lady tell me a chikan story. It was 10 years ago (a time when she was getting groped frequently on Tokyo's Keihin Tohoku; in fact she was almost sad it doesn't happen anymore for fear people don't find her attractive). The train was reasonably packed and she felt a bump from behind. A few moments later the door opened and she felt something in her hand. She opened it and found a 5,000 yen note.

Now there's a business opportunity.... a chikan train... where women sign up to get groped, and then they are paid by customers who feel them up.... I am sure that'd be a fortune in the making kind of business.

The Chikan Express.
