Women To Be Allowed To Marry Three Times A Year

Postby Mulboyne » Tue Mar 20, 2007 9:42 pm

[floatr]Image[/floatr]Asahi: LDP moves to shorten period when women can remarry
A legal stipulation that prevents women from remarrying within six months of divorce will be shortened to 100 days under a proposal unveiled Tuesday by a ruling party group. The ban, which comes under Article 733 of the Civil Law, was created to help define the biological father of a child born after a divorce who remarries. However, Article 772 of the Civil Law states that a child born within 300 days of divorce is "presumed" to be the ex-husband's offspring, even if there is no biological connection. It also says that a child born on the 200th day of marriage or thereafter is presumed to be the current husband's offspring. To prevent those periods from overlapping, the group of Liberal Democratic Party lawmakers said the six-month ban on women remarrying should be reduced to 100 days, officials said...The project team was set up in response to a growing number of divorced women, who, with their new spouses, have been pressing the government to be more realistic about registering children under the names of their real parents...Moves to review the six-month period have been put off for the past 10 years. The ban has frequently been criticized because only women are singled out...more...

Why don't they have a DNA test to determine paternity? Why does the J-gov rely on time periods to determine who is the papa? Very odd.

I believe the Japanese system of 300 days post-divorce as a baseline for establishing paternity is based on the US system...

I wonder how much the divorce rate would go up if paternity tests were required for all newborn children.

A lot of states in the US have really fucked up paternity laws and rulings that force guys to pay child support for children that aren't theirs.

Fuck Ox, I tried that for each of my six kids and found out the neighbor's in play for four of them and the other two are a toss-up with the mailman. I'm the only one excluded! I wonder if that will qualify me for alimony?

I dated a midwife here for awhile and heard lots of interesting stories. Hospitals used to always test newborns' blood types, but many hospitals don't do it anymore. She said it was a real problem sometimes because the blood type of the kid wasn't possible if Mom & Pop were who they were supposed to be... ;)

Who woulda thunk a 19th century Austrian monk's work on breeding wrinkly vs. smooth peas was gonna breed the field of genetic science, and give us license to take out the milkman?

It's an old law.

The project team was originally established to review Article 772 that requires a child born within 300 days of divorce to be registered as offspring of the former husband.

The Civil Law has been revised several times since it came into force in 1898. But the contents of Article 772 have remained virtually unchanged.

If it's changed to 100 days between marriages, there is the interesting although remote possibility of three men being legally the father of any given child. It would be a nice way to share the child support payments.

Mendel fudged a lot of his data...probably molested some of the altar boys also, but that's a different story for another time.
