G8 Summit Menus For Monday

The Sun Says: CRASS world leaders last night tucked into a sumptuous eight-course banquet as they discussed the world's food shortage. Gordon Brown sat down to the lavish slap-up dinner just hours after ordering Brits to stop wasting grub. The PM joined the world's most powerful men and women for a 19-dish banquet washed down with fine wines and champagne. They met at the G8 summit in Japan to help solve the world's food crisis - but appeared to be unaware of the irony of their groaning plates. Earlier, they had gorged themselves on a five course "working lunch" at their hotel retreat cut off from the outside world and surrounded by a massive security cordon...more...

G8 summit: Gordon Brown has eight-course dinner before food crisis talks

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/japan/2262534/G8-summit-Gordon-Brown-has-eight-course-dinner-before-food-crisis-talks.html
Mr Brown and his wife Sarah were among 15 guests at the "blessings of the earth and the sea social dinner".

The dinner consisted of 18 dishes in eight courses including caviar, smoked salmon, Kyoto beef and a "G8 fantasy dessert".
Heh. "Blessings of the earth and sea"? Do they mean "Surf n' Turf"?

I assume they meant Kobe beef, but one can't expect a Londonistani newspaper to know the difference between one Japanese K-town and another.

-catone
-Mmm...G8 fantasy dessert...

"Saki"? WTF?

So, eight gourmet courses for them, one course of shit for the rest of the world. Sums up the whole mutual wankfest they are presently undertaking.

I guess they're pollies and they can do this. Had this summit been about anything else, I wouldn't really care. But it does show a bit of insenserity...
I broke a mirror this morning, which means I should be getting 7 years of bad luck - but my lawyer says he can get me 5.

FARK has a thread on this:

http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=3721013

One Farker notes the delectable symbolism of this line from the Telegraph article:

"African leaders including the heads of Ethiopia, Tanzania and Senegal who had taken part in talks during the day were not invited to the function."
