Amazon.co.jp and Sagawa F*ck-you-bin (TM)

Anybody else use Amazon in Japan? Curious to know if others have trouble with delivery (carried out courtesy of Sagawa Takyubin)? This week, these guys didn't show up for redelivery I asked for twice, and then they forged the order status as "delivered" when there is no package here whatsoever. I don't order from Amazon that often and don't keep records, but now that I think about it, I have vague memories of this happening several times before.

I have no problems with other delivery services (Post Office, Kuroneko Yamato). They're frighteningly accurate and professional. So the problem seems to be unique to Sagawa and their Amazon-related deliveries. Now that I have noticed the pattern, I am probably going to think twice about using Amazon for anything time-sensitive.

Anybody else have this experience?

Yes. Sagawa are the worst. Multiple times, the online tracking showed 'delivery attempted, customer unreachable'.. There was someone home all day, and no delivery notice left in the mailbox.

Trying to find a support number for them online is also a pain. Kuro gives you the cell phone of the driver!..

Not sure if it's Amazon, though. I think Kuroneko usually deliver my Amazon orders.

Oh, and is the picture in your post what you're waiting to have delivered?

No, I'm hoping she's the driver, and I have already decided what kind of reparations I expect from her in exchange for that lousy service, when she finally shows up.

Same here... It's the BlackCat people that delivers me the Amazon stuff...

Never had problemes with sagawa. But maybe a courtesy visit to their local dispatch center might be required (if you speak the language...). Anyway they should be able to show you the delivery slip signed.

If not, what are the options ? calling the cops ?

You can find similar complaints about Sagawa's service in Japanese:

Sagawa's habits could really 'eat' into Amazon's profits.. :D

Sagawa finally decided to stop by the 3rd day, because Amazon asked them to "launch an investigation". Mrs. Omae Mona was at home, so we got the package.

Amazon sent me a note saying how happy they are to hear from Sagawa that I received the package. They also are happy that Sagawa reports they offered me a heartfelt apology when they finally delivered the package. I am happy Amazon is happy. But in fact Sagawa just delivered the package nonchalantly like it was a first attempt, without apologizing or even mentioning it was a redelivery. I am not motivated enough to write a letter to Amazon again to tell them that Sagawa (again) lied to them, and I really don't care that nobody apologized (I just wanted my package). But I think I am done with Amazon for a while until they get this under control.

write them and tell them that. Things don't change up until someone speaks up.

What a lame summary from Amazon. Who the fuck cares how they 'feel'?..

Are you sure it wasn't a vendor selling through Amazon? I just had an Amazon deliver yesterday, and it was Black Cat.. And on time.

Could be location, I guess. Maybe you're area is serviced by Suckawa..

I agree.

If Sagawa told Amazon they apologized when in fact they didn't, they should be called out on it. Unfortunately, since there's no concrete evidence (like, whether the package has actually been delivered or not), it becomes your word against theirs, and they'll probably just lie again. But if Amazon is receiving multiple complaints of this type, yours will add to the weight of public opinion, which is probably a good thing.

It could be worse....You'd have to eat your words (and more) using a Sagawa Takkyubin like this. (And you should see what he does to his Amazons...)

Some interesting developments in Japan's parcel delivery services.

Kyodo via Japan Times: Japan Post eyes Pelican acquisition
Japan Post is looking at acquiring Nippon Express Co.'s Pelican parcel delivery service because an existing plan to run their combined services as a joint venture is unviable, industry sources said Thursday. Japan Post Service Co., the branch of the group responsible for handling mail service, intends to make a decision on turning the joint venture, JP Express Co., into a wholly owned subsidiary by the end of the year, they said. Japan Post agreed with Nippon Express in October 2007 to set up a joint venture that would simultaneously run both Pelican and Japan Post's Yu-Pack service to cut costs and increase efficiency. But the plan was frozen because the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry refused to sign off on it, saying preparations were insufficient. JP Express was thus unable to handle the Yu-Pack service and plunged into an operating loss that reduced the consolidated 2009 first-half profit of its holding firm, Japan Post Holdings Co.

Since JP Express cannot be expected to improve profitability, Japan Post plans to take the lead in the parcel service integration deal and reduce capacity smoothly to improve efficiency and coordinate with the ministry in this direction, according to the sources. The change comes after the Democratic Party of Japan took control of the government from the long-ruling Liberal Democratic Party in September. The DPJ has called for revising the Japan Post privatization plan, which began under the LDP-led government in October 2007. Yoshifumi Nishikawa, who was effectively forced to resign as president of Japan Post Holdings in October in part as a result of the change in policy, had taken the initiative in promoting the parcel integration deal.

Not had a single problem with sagawa. Not even after I made them deliver a 40kg bass cabinet and a 25kg all tube bass head!

have had zero problems with amazon but have definitely had problems with sagawa. had a time sensitive order which their online tracking had listed as a completed delivery and were given the run-around over the phone until it finally showed up a couple of hours later.
