A blend of many malted whiskys and some grain whisky.
A single malt is a whisky that is from a single dislilation aged in old oak barrels for a minimum of four years to a hundred or more. A blend is as it seems is a mix of single malts and grain whisky to achieve a stable tasting product that is repeatable "as is". Single malt has variations batch to batch as no two distilations can be identical in all components (malting, drying, smoking, weather,temprature rate of change............you name a variable and add it to the list)

btw, grain whisky is made with little or no malted grain and as such has little flavor or complexity in taste, just a kick like a mule, you know like moonshine whisky.

I'll say this.

I've had some HORRIBLE Japanese whiskies.

But I saw one, it was like 12,000 yen for the bottle. And I got curious. Just WHAT does 14,000 yen whiskey taste like? Beside it, it had a smaller bottle that was about 6,000 yen. I bought it and got STUNNED

'scuse the language, but f*cking STUNNED I TELL YOU.

It was the best damn whiskey I ever had in my LIFE.

Changed my opinion of Japanese whiskey forEVER. I drank that whole little bottle. Got SAUCED too.

the average whiskies are crap, but they higher ends are worth the money.
