Google has just come out with a new deskbar that has most of the Google features and you can view web sites with a mini-viewer without having to open a browser.

I just downloaded it - it seems to very good. One thing I did notice is that it doesn't seem to be able to open other sites that would be seen in another window.

Then again, there are no popups either so let's be thankful for small mercies...

Isn't this included in Safari browsers as a standard feature? Personally I use it ALL the time. If I ever need to do a google search, I just enter into the window next to the address field. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Google bar as a standard browser feature

Yep, it's the standard default in Safari, Opera, Mozilla, Firebird, et al.
When Google stock goes public, no telling what evil will happen since feature has a potential to be the ultimate spyware (if it isn't already).

Yeah, Google Bars are becoming pretty well standard in lot's of browsers. Problem is that I find most of them freeze up on me after a while except ol' faithful Internet Explorer which I've managed to configure pretty well. (Used to have problems with IE too but a bit of tweaking has helped)

The thing I dig is that I can look up stuff using the task bar instead of waiting for the browser window to fire up, and then use Google...a pain in the butt when you just want to do a quick search, especially with the boss hovering in the background...

Gotta admit that some of these alternative browsers have some good features, providing your system is compatible.

Meanwhile, the Google toolbar itself just keeps getting better and better.

Evil = money.
Normally, mere mortals never get a chance to buy a hot new issue like Google. However, Goodle is thinking about doing its IPO via an eBay-style auction. I could see Google-iods like me biding up the price to $500-1,000 a share, ha, ha, ha. The "Bigger Fool"rules!

Google wants to see what sites I look at?

Why the sick, nasty perverts, they're almost as bad as me

Google Rules OK

Postby Nagged » Sun Dec 14, 2003 12:54 am

I've tried several seach engines and toolbars...and I've never found any better than Google.

If you want to seach for Japanese websites, you can still do it with an English Google toolbar on Internet Explorer or using the Googlebar for Mozilla by using the Japanese seach engine under Seach Preferences. (obviously if you are looking for Japanese websites, you should be able to read the language to a certain extent)

At the same time, when trying the Altavista toolbar, I found that I could not do a search in Japanese, all of the characters came up as gibberish. I tried things like changing the encoding font on the browser (no luck, even though the Altavita toolbar automatically changed the font to Unicode without my permission!) and I also tried to select a Japanese Altavista toolbar but none exist yet., even though they are available in some other European languages.

At the same time, Google does not have a English/Japanese translation service yet but Altavista does...go figure.

Thanks DN. I've seen similar on Excite and Goo translation sites too.

http://www.excite.co.jp/world/text
http://www.excite.co.jp/world/url
http://dictionary.goo.ne.jp/

That kanji lookup on the Infoseek site is quite good. Here's a couple of sites to help look up radicals.

http://www.geocities.co.jp/Bookend/3241/Hanrei.htm
http://www.schaapje.org:8888/cgi-bin/kanji?action=listkanji[/url]

Note: If you use the Google Deskbar (or others), then you can use configure it to look up Kanji on sites like the above mentioned 'www.schaapje.org' quite easily.

Have Google, will find...

Try that search engine if you have a webpage and you want to see visually how it is being linked to :D

I use it quite often to see what sites are linking to my site.
