Mr. Sparkle needs Japanese Publisher

Postby mr. sparkle » Fri Mar 26, 2004 4:16 am

Hi FG Krew,
Maybe some of you know...

I just published a book on making motion graphics and effects in apple final cut pro.

Image

I'm all over who's optioning the book for foreign language rights, which expire in 30 days. The book is my key for some free world travel!

So far:

German
French
Spanish
Portuguese
4 Italian Companies (?)
Polish (!)
Arabic (!)
Chinese
Korean

I expected no Thai....sheeet---probably already sittin' pretty
on the shelf in Panthip Plaza in BKK.

But no Japanese?!

WTF??

So my publisher has asked me, "if I know anyone"...
Yeah right....

Since I really think this is the only major language not carried (can anyone think of any other important languages where Macs might exist) and that I do want to tour around Japan in a few months touting it - I need your help. I want to really put a full court press on my publisher, because they don't seem to be putting forth enough effort for foreign distribution. I get less royalties for foreign distribution, but they are royalties nontheless.

If anyone can help me find out what the publishers are for "How To" Mac books or anyone who's published a FCP book in Japan - I would greatly appreciate that and stoke you with daijokis 'till ya drop.

If you're bored and want to help me, head on over to Llaox or T-Zone and jot down the publisher for these kinds of Mac books. Or maybe check the internet for me. For instance, who is the publisher for this book.

I can't do an internet search, since I cannot read Japanese.

My book is doing well and is in the Top 100 computer books on Amazon. It fluctuates in the top 2,200-7,500 depending on the day (#7,719 today). Head to head, I am winning the sales war with the latest "official" Apple training book (today at #8,074), which speaks volumes (pun intended).

The kids love my book - I just hope I can bring it to Japan!

Thanks so much for all your help.

I think I might be able to help you a little in this endeavor. I have published several books in Japan and I am currently helping another guy get his book distributed out of Japan.

Perhaps we can exchange notes.

Let me know.

Kevin, I know one of the top Mac journalists in Japan. If you send me an introduction email with your request and contact info (check my blog for my email) I can send it on to him with a cc and he can either help you or suggest someone else to help.

The other person to contact might be Larry Cosh-Ishii of WirelessWatchJapan.com. Feel free to drop him a line and tell him I (Gen Kanai) sent you. He's pretty well networked here in Japan and does a lot of video work, so maybe he knows someone who can help you.

Thanks Gen. Done and done--finally.

Man, my book is kickin' butt today. It's gone from about #3,700 to 1,077 overnight on Amazon. I got a good review here - maybe that's it...

Good stuff. Perhaps I have no J-Publisher because I show folks how to set the Chuo on fire!
