Taking a quick look at that video, while not really paying attention, it sounds like he also made the classic mistake of calling immigration and taking / not taking action based on what was probably a generic answer. "Oh, but I called immigration and they said...".

True story: The last time I was actually at Japanese immigration (many YEARS ago) there were three women (speaking a Slavic language) in line together wearing sequinned micro minis tube "skirts" in flourescent black light friendly colors that were fastened by a strip of velcro on the side hip that went from the hem line to the belt seam. You could literally rip the whole thing off like a bandage with one dramatic hand/arm movement at the climatic moment of a raunchy rock tune -- perfect if that's part of your dance (I mean WORK) routine.

It was then and there that I learned that Japanese immigration is not as tough as it is rumored to be.
