Aren't US military supposed to be in optimal physical shape?

Obesity does not fit in that picture...

I suppose it depends on the restaurant.

When I was in Taiwan, I was once served Chahan with roach legs in it.

Mind you, I did not order those legs...

Just because you didn't ask for cockroach legs doesn't mean they weren't supposed to be there.
Like one time my buddy ordered a baked potato at a place in Ebisu and it came stuffed with shiokara. :puke:

Not everyone on the bases is in the military (spouses, civilian employees, etc.). However, it also depends on what branch of service you're in and what you do. You'll never see a fat marine but I've seems some porkers in the navy.
By the way, Pepper Lunch is disgusting. :puke:

LOL, indeed...

...but like SJ and KG are describing (and LA is no exception to this either) I would also agree that Taiwanese seems to be the best balance of authentic goodness without second guessing if it's cat or dog meat. The neon orange colored stuff KG mentioned is like the Taco Bell of Chinese food...it has it's place but not exactly something to go hunting for.

True for any Navy I think. Got a friend who was navy commando for his conscription (12 month) He never lost the beer belly he got there. Not really that much things to do on a ship in peacetime... And the cooks knows that they might have to come home swimming if they fuck up...

Okay, but the Vancouver Taiwanese I was talking about is that neon orange gloop. It seems to me to be very Peking style; most Vancouver Whitey Chinese is modified Cantonese style (soy and black bean sauce rather than white or orange gloop), and some Szechuan of late. But I will try some of this Japanese Taiwanese if it's the best version going. I need to break out of the bubble I have been falling into; I find the food offerings here so appallingly monotonous I am really falling into quite a deep rut, esp. down here in Okinawa (not mainland). I can't even get a halfway decent burger since Freshness Burger went poopers. This must be the most cuisine impoverished place in Japan outside of outport Hokkaido, and at least they have fresh seafood up there. So when I get back to Tokyo I shall go jauntily exploring. I can see quite a few pub arguments coming when I get back to Vancouver and have to put up with all the cooing and purring about All That Wonderful Japanese Food

Yeah, you damn Northerners still do. We poor blighted Ishigaki-oids do not. It went a few years back. Everything else is either A&W or those fancy Bistro style fat burgers.

Maybe I'll just make one.......The one thing Okinawan supermarkets do have is a ready supply of good, white proper hamburger buns. This makes me happy.
