Literature Translation Interaction

Here's a nice piece of web interaction. Blogger Mari (Taro has picked up on some of her posts for FG) wrote about her love of the short stort "Lemon" by Kajii Motojiro and was sorry that it wasn't available in English. Her description of the story intrigued "Candace" who decided, although not a professional, to produce a translation as the first piece for her own blog, "nattocake". Mari has now just posted these same links on her blog.

Candace hopes to produce more translations

...to offer other English speakers a way to: 1) read new literature, and 2) understand modern Japan from a fuller perspective.

Yeah, I remember commenting on the original thread on Mari's blog. I said I read the story in my Japanese literature class. Maybe I should have said more clearly that I read an English translation in a very popular UNESCO J Lit anthology. But Candace got it into her head that it had never been translated into English, so it was up to her to do it. I haven't got the heart to tell her.

Anyway, it's a fairly good translation, and surely you get a lot from translating something by yourself.
