Pretty Japanese names

Postby Jack » Wed Sep 13, 2006 10:38 pm

Since you guys are always so negative and shit all over Japan at every chance you get, it was no surprise that someone comes up with a thread that reads "Stupid Japanese names" which is a stupid thread in itself. Why not do one that says "pretty Japanese names?"

Anyway, I find any Japanese name that ends in "mi" rather pretty like Manami, Ayumi, Hitomi, Megumi and so on. The ones that end in "ko" like Junko, Tomoko, do not sound nice to my ear.

I always wonder what happened to the traditional women's names, like those starting with o-, like o-kichi. Also traditional -ko names like kikuko seem to be on the wane.

Nice

I agree with the Mi-s, but also like a lot of the -ko s.

Yukiko

Asami

As for the criticism of the Stupid Sounding Names thread, well, Stupid was definitely not a good choice of words, but you need to lighten up.

Let's face it, anyone named Fukuko is going to have a hard time at The Hub with the Tragically monolinguals. But, if she is at the Hub, perhaps that is exactly what she is looking for.

My inlaws are populated exclusively by cool sounding first names, like Kazumasa, Fumie, Michiko, Masayasu, Megumi, Reika...

But the best one has got to be "Saijiro".

You like Hitomi? That would be one that would go in my 'stupid japanese names' section...

Nice Japanese names? I like Saori. For guys I like Satoshi. I dont like any name with an 'f' in it...

Horrible Japanese names? Maiko (sounds too much like Micheal), Ryuu (Have to really concentrate before I say it), anything ending in Hito (HISAHITO? come on...!), Nobuo is pretty bad.

I recently named my first daughter, Reina. If I do have another, I'll name her Kaori.

Don't like the Mi-s, eh!? Heathen. Mind you, it does sound like Hitme for all you tragically unilinguals out there.

Maiko is a bit too Geisha groovy, for sure, but Saori? Sounds like a........., I don't know, but not good. ;)

As for the new and next next emperor, all males in the line are named ~~hito. And no commoner can use that kanji. I'd like to use it just to shove a barb up the IHA's tightly clenched bum. But I'd have to procreate first.

Yeah, Asami does it to me all the time.

I guess I had a super relationship with a beauty called Hitomi so I have this thing for that name.

I like Hiromi as well and Aya, Sayaka. So many pretty sounding names in Japanese.

When I watch the Memoirs of a Geisha the cute little girl named Chiyo made me like that name.

The one's I don't like, Tomoko, Junko, Terue, Chisato, Sanae, Yoko, Yuko, Eriko, Rieko, and I'm sure there would be many others.

Chiyo-chan?

It actually is kind of a cute name, plus I've never seen a character named Chiyo that isn't mind blowingly cute.

Mihoko

'Ho' is her middle name.

Mikako

'Cock' is her middle name.

And it's all about 'me'.

The only thing with a name like Chiyo-chan is that after the age of 8 it might sound, shall we say, too childish?

The most badass name a japanese male can have was held by the legendary Kagetora Nagao(長尾景虎).
Although after looking him up in wikipedia i was kind of disapointed that it wasn't 影虎 which would have made him ShadowTiger LongTail.

The "mi" names are cute, the "ko" names are hot (i like naoko, for example), but the best name/trait to have in a girlfriend or wife is...shizuka.

Ahh, Ai baby! The same independant and anynonomous sources tell me they have had a jolt with an Ai-chan in almost every gin mill they have happened to frequent!

You think that's bad ... I had a student named "Maiki" ... pretty weird calling a girl "Mikey"

Actually I think the worst names I've ever heard were "ikumi", "ikuko" and definitely #1: "ikuyo"

How can you say that last one with a straight face? :-?
