Is that where the break in the JR line is? I saw a picture up at Imabari Station showing a very broken railway bridge today but I couldn't figure out exactly where is was.

I did no research on where the line is cut (nor on anyone's home address), I just looked for a significant river between Imabari and Matsuyama with a clear view down the river from the bridge.

It does sound like it is time for Dimwit and Mock Cockpit to have a mini FG meetup, floods permitting.

And to answer Matsuiki's question: yes, channelization with concrete will increase the capacity of some rivers, but even that greater capacity has a limit.

Of course, design decisions like this for that bridge do not help in these situations (fun google artefact)

It seems that the actual bridge in question might be in Kagawa, the other side of Kannonji, but the effects on the transport network extend much wider.

I know who Mock Cockpit is and he knows me, albeit by a different name. Haven't had a good talk with him since early 2017 when I was up in his neck of the woods.

As for the break in the line, there were about two or three potential places it could have been including that one. JR Shikoku's website and staff are being about as communicative on the matter as Shoko Asahara.

There were two places I saw where they were working on the line, one looked minor but the other is going to take some fixing. It's between Asanami and Kikuma stations. The hill has slid from the line down to the road (about 20 metres) and it was probably the line itself that stopped the whole side of the hill going. I'm no railway repair expert but might be back towards the end of this week.

That river did flood but about 3 kms upstream, looks like a bridge acted as a choke point and a sawmill next to the river got washed away. There were logs from arsehole to breakfast and a giant bandsaw blade on the side of the road.

Starting to look like a proper typhoon around here.

Japan Inc.'s greatest threat? Typhoons.
fortune.com | 2013/11/26
...
the cost of direct damage from typhoons in Japan in the 1990s was 35 times greater than what it was in the 1970s, while the cost of damage related to flooding was eight times as much.
If that weren’t enough, the effects of climate change are expected to spawn “super-typhoons,” packing winds faster than a bullet train in the second half of this century, say Japanese researchers...Japan, it seems, is powerless to stop the furies it has summoned...Will lose 20 percent of GDP annually shortly.

Yes. It seems we were extremely lucky around here.

Especially since you were at the east side of the typhoon's trajectory. There it was much worse than here at the west side, which had winds mostly weakened by the mountains up north.

It appears that Typhoon Trami is about to pound us into submission. Hong Kong got theirs, and now it's our turn.

Hmm, after it finishes with Okinawa, it looks like it will go on over Japan from Kyushu and Shikoku to Honshu, and probably even Hokkaido. Enough for this year already!

Fuck, it's rocking in Adachi ku, my neighbor came around drunk and told me his mate in Jujo, Kita Ward, who lives in a wood frame apato was shitting himself cause he thinks the roof is gonna fly off and he's on the top floor.

There's a lot to be said for renting a solid concrete apato in a less nice area and paying less for it than wood frame apatos in the prestigious wards of Tokyo, as well as a lot to be said for not paying relative peanuts to rent a wood frame in Katsushika or Adachi, or Edogawa, Kita Ku etc.

I fucking hate to think how people feel in the south and west of Japan - here in the eastern part of Tokyo's wards the wind is worrying me. Time for another cheap Moscow Mule cocktail from the non famous name conbini. I don't give a shit about drinking on tho I have to go to work tomorrow.

Down Okinawa way, but somewhat inaka-ish. Okiden services by order of population. They no longer have regional units repair their own areas of responsibility.
