Japan has a reputation as a difficult market to crack. But not when it comes to human trafficking.
With the world's second largest economy and a sex industry estimated at Y10,000bn ($83bn), Japan has become a favoured destination for organised crime gangs that traffic young women, including minors, and sell them into prostitution.
..."There is a strong gender bias in Japanese law. Prostitution is not wrong as far as the buyer is concerned," adds Ms Yoshida....
The prevailing attitude, instead, is that the women are simply illegal migrants. As Ms Otsu says, "The view in Japan is that the victim is at fault."
