Okay I can't find a reference for this but I have heard this from a number of students and my wife. Recently, banks certainly in Ehime, but possibly in the rest of Japan, have started to give loyal account holding customers lottery tickets, I suppose as a way of improving their absolutely abysmally low interest rates. This doesn't seem to be a prize for joining the bank but rather a reward for long standing customers. I guess the bank motto could be 'We can blow you money away on lotteries, or you can blow your money on lotteries.'
