"TOKYO ROSE" confesses all

Frederick P. Close is writing a new book, titled "TOKYO ROSE: An American Patriot", a biography of
Iva Toguri, best known as the infamous Tokyo Rose, whose propaganda
broadcasts influenced Allied troop morale during World War II, for
which she was convicted of treason and subsequently pardoned by
US President Ford, based on extensive interviews with Ms. Toguri, as well
as research under the Freedom of Information Act.

Praeger Press/Greenwood Publishing Group will publish it in 2006

Several of us from the Northside (Chicago) have met her....she's an ok lady and till the late 1980s she often handled Japanese language questions and students at her shop at Clark and Belmont which only few steps away from my house. She got a bad rap since there were several Tokyo Roses (maybe as many as 20) and she didn't have much of a choice. On the other hand, Dumbo Jenkins did the same if not worse thing and if it can proven (it gonna be hard to prove) he defected, he ought to sent back to Lil' Kim on the next cruise missile.

"Tokyo Rose" celebrated her 90th birthday on July Fourth with a quiet private party attended by a few close friends and family. Iva Toguri first became famous during World War II as a broadcaster who raised funds for starving POWs in Japan, according to a New York Daily News story.

She had been stranded in Tokyo, the story notes, while visiting a sick aunt when war was declared, and took the radio job on Zero Hour, a Japanese propaganda radio show manned by Allied prisoners, for lack of other options. Her actions on the air consisted solely of comedy skits and funny introduction pieces, yet after the war, she was arrested for "promoting Anti-American propaganda."

She ended up in prison for a total of seven years, and her U.S. citizenship was even revoked. Some 30 years later, an investigative report on "60 Minutes" uncovered prosecutorial improprieties and lies from her accusers, and ultimately led then-President Gerald Ford to issue a full pardon and restore her citizenship. - ST

OT:In a matter of months Dumbo Jenkins will be granted PR in Japan. How fucked is that?
Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms should be the name of a store, not a government agency.

It's probably a statement of mercy. If he went back home to live permanently, it would have only been a matter of time until one of the red necks stuffed him down the stool and flushed it (I would even hold the toilet paper if requested)!

Jenkins is at least smart enought to know that he is safe in dear old Sado and should stay there with his "love, love, wife"! Anything other could possibly result in his hemorhoids being remodeled and fitted into a new necktie for him.

You are right about that. Hell, in a country where you can be charged for saying "contemptuous words against the President of the United States." Jenkins would probably be shot at the Airport arrivals with the media and the government rushing to pin a medal on the guy who did it!

Taro what kind of store did she have? I know that area having lived in Lincoln Park for couple of years and do not recall a store around that area...

Check the address inthis post. I'm also from around there. I don't recall any addresses given and never met her either, but I do recall the many articles over the years citing her home, at least, in that area.

Just at the corner of Clark and Belmont, on Clark three doors in from the southwest corner. The sign said "Import-Export Orient". From the mid-70s, her store was almost always closed and dealt wholesale in things like paper drink umbrellas. Many gay bars on the Northside used to buy from Tokyo Rose.:love2:
