Silence Demanded in Government Elevators

Stickers demanding silence in elevators appear in government buildings.

Are they afraid they might start talking in elevators then rubble the corruption in their departments, or that the people going their for benefits may decide to get together & start a riot? Fucking idiots.

Hey, I could understand if it read something like, Please keep your voice down, but SILENCE?

typical instance of just how unaware / penny wise - pound foolish this country can be..

silence? you want silence? i can think of several daily instances of completely un-needed noise that could so easily be done away with... even out here in inaka i found the noise load to be considerably higher than living in the city in canada.. the only country with a higher noise load is spain.

so let's start with eliminating the following and then we can tackle the rabble-rousers who like to disturb the wa while moving vertically at 2m/s.

1. air raid sirens that sound every day at 11.30 or noon
2. loudspeaker cars (be it for elections, the local bakery, selling brooms)
3. endless and pointless construction
4. talking bank machines. the amount of time alone wasted listening to the bank machine finish her spiel is aggravating. just spit out my book / process my transaction and be the fuck done with it. i don't need it narrated.
5. horrible muzak that sounds in every store while at the same time tape recorders on a loop yelling "irrashaimasse!" and constant nagging store announcements. tone it down and let people shop in peace.
6. how about some noise by-laws? say like no running your 2-stroke engine weed whacker or chain-saw at 4.30 a.m. on a sunday morning 30 feet from my house.
7. no locating farms in the middle of residential areas

There are so many contradictions to that rule. When can one make a little noise or when must one be quiet? I don`t quite understand the rules....
The faintest of noises will get you dagger glares.

1) You can`t make any noises in the movie theater(laugh, cry, cheer, sigh, eat popcorn...I mean, chew on it.)

2) You can`t talk in a restaurant while eating(as in light conversation)

3) If you listen to music(ipod, cd player etc.)again, can`t be too loud otherwise it will break the silence.

4) When you wash your car, can`t have the stereo on(once again, get the dagger looks)

These are some of the examples I can come up with....anyone else know as where you are not allowed to TALK?:confused:

Starbucks is godawful noisy. Hard to relax, read a book, catch up on your email without eavesdropping on conversations being shouted from across the shop. I much prefer those places modeled on Italian Expresso bars and Austrian coffee houses that are far quieter, more relaxing, better decorated, and not much more expensive.

In some extreme cases...even at home. This depending of course on your neighbour and if he complains at the fudosan!!
