The campaign must be a success, as it seems like one person went green (with envy).

Most Japanese women's hair looks like dead straw. I don't know why they do it to themselves. Their natural hair looks great.

Recently this sort of women's hair style is negatively called "DQN hair".

I don't know what you guys are talking about but the ugliest of them all is hot as it can be. Their hair look great. Check the hair of women on the tube in London every morning and then talk about ugly hair. Those girls in the pictures are HOT!!!!

Yeah what the hell is up with that? I was at an izakaya recently and I saw these old couples next to me whipping out their "my hashis." It was more of a snobbish statement than trying to save the environment.

Some people may do it to be trendy rather than for more altruistic reasons, but at least they are doing it. I think it is a worthwhile campaign.

What ever happened to the wonderful old "I'd rather go nude than where fur" parades?

The whole thing smacks of self-promotion rather than a true pro-environmental cause. It's like Paris Hilton trying out a charity the same way she'd try on a pair of shoes.

It's a tough crowd out there these days. What does someone have to do to be a little ecologically oriented without automatically being accused of falseness? Benneton is usually pretty good on its social motives. It has a good corporate track record of putting it's money where its mouth is...even at the cost of alienating some of its potential customers.

Also your reply reminded me of the Daily Show bit yesterday about how Al Gore got blasted for a day straight on Fox Newsfor winning the Nobel. (Two windows will pop up and it takes a wee bit to load.)

Mainichi: 'Bring your own chopsticks' dining plan launched to help environment
A department store and hotel here have decided to launch a campaign calling for people to bring their own chopsticks to restaurants as an environmental measure, it has been learned. The Chubu-Kintetsu department store in Yokkaichi and the Yokkaichi Miyako Hotel will launch the campaign in June, as part of their efforts to prevent global warming. The Japan Department Stores Association says it has never heard of such an approach by a department store. With the G-8 summit being held at Lake Toya in Hokkaido later this year, the department store and hotel are hoping to enlighten people about environmental issues starting in the area in front of Kintetsu Yokkaichi Station, where they operate. "We want people to use it as a chance to take another look at their lifestyles," said Yumiko Takahashi, a member of the department store's sales promotion division.

People will be able to use their own chopsticks at 12 restaurants in the department store's food mall and another mall in the area, as well as in three restaurants at the hotel. If diners bring their chopsticks with them three times, then they will be given a pair of chopsticks as a gift. The campaign will run from June 6 to 30. The department store's cafeteria and the hotel's restaurants, banquet halls and guest rooms are also considering eliminating disposable chopsticks and replacing them with chopsticks that can be washed and reused.
