One of the first jobs he was assigned was to arrange a night out for a group of visiting managers from some of the company's branch offices around Japan. He was specifically requested to find some suitable prostitutes. The whole thing is very simple. He got caught by his wife, and basically is crying, "But, honey, they made me sleep with those hookers, it was part of the job. You can't be mad at me for I HAD to have sex with other women." He's just trying to get out of the doghouse at home.

I just browsed a few pages of the lawsuit (very amusing reading) from the PDF on Gen's page. First of all, Iraira is absolutely right. This guy got busted at home. Even though it seems kind of irrelevant to the complaint, there's a whole paragraph explaining that the plaintiff very definitely did NOT have sex with that prostitute. He waited patiently in the room alone with her for a few minutes, doing nothing, and then returned to the lobby. And then the lawsuit says

By subjecting plaintiff to a hostile work environment, defendants caused plaintiff to suffer profound emotional distress. Patient has suffered loss of sleep, anxiety, stress .... and disruption of family and social relationships.

Great guess Iraira!!

The lawsuit also seems to insinuate that there was religious discrimination (on the basis that the plaintiff was Jewish, but his eventual replacement was not). And then I think they are implying that the Japanese boss is gay. Regarding the onsen trip:

they were then expected to climb naked into the bath with defendant Shigeta. To do this, each of the men also had to parade naked in front of defendant Shigeta. It was obvious from his expression that defendant Shigeta enjoyed subjecting plaintiff and the others to this humiliating spectacle.

I don't want to come off sounding like Howard Stern, but let's look at the facts. The guy is a guy, meaning that if he feels he can get away with it (even if there is the most remote chance of being able to get away with it), he will bang another chick. Since biz in Japan (espcially at this level) is largely based on 'relationships' gained in the sento or soap, and the mutual face risk-points gathered, my guess is that Biegel was just behind in the transactional analysis.
