Rubbish Advertising

Kisarazu City in Chiba will begun selling advertising space on its garbage trucks. It will cost 120,000 yen to put an ad on a 4 ton truck and 84,000 for the 2 ton model. Space on seven trucks is up for grabs and the local council hopes to bring in a total of 660,000 yen. That now gives you enough information to work out how many trucks of each size are involved in the deal. The idea is being increasingly adopted by municipal authorities around the world and was first picked up in Japan by cities in Kansai before gaining popularity nationwide.

Having lived there for a few years, I can safely say that I never saw one of those on the streets, much less at the Clean Center.

The only exception was during the "Yassai Mossai" matsuri every August, where they parked a few in strategic places downtown for people to throw their empty cans of beer and American Dog skewers into... :p

Advertising on filthy garbage trucks? Gee, you would think that not many companies would want their products associated with dirty, smelly garbage.

Can you imagine someone like McDonnalds putting a greasy Big Mac billboard on garbage truck, or how about a sushi restaurant chain with worn out images of sashimi? Not exactly appetizing is it?

Then again, with the upcoming election, garbage trucks would be a perfect place to promote political campaigns.

Maybe it's just truth in advertising.

I stand corrected, we can include corrupt multi-national corporations in addition to politicians. :D That image was funny! Lets toss one in with the LDP logo as well.
