He's a smart guy, started out working as a delivery man for Sagawa or somesuch, saved his money, opened his first restaurant, and built it up from there.

Tokyo has by far the youngest population of any prefecture in Japan. Blaming old folks for Ishihara is unjustified. I suspect that it is the young who favor the flashy colorful controversal over the pragmatic and prudent.

Tokyo Gov. Shintaro Ishihara is likely to officially announce whether he will seek re-election at the end of the last Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly session of his third term in March.
Amid a flurry of speculation as to when Ishihara will make an announcement about his position on the upcoming gubernatorial race, sources close to the 78-year-old governor have explained that he will probably unveil his decision about the election along with his thoughts on Japan and Tokyo at a plenary session on March 11, the last day of the ongoing session.
