I've just sent a wonderful e-mail off to my German friend (though I get the feeling it may soon be my ex-friend).
I look forward to trying out my new linguistic skills when the Socceroos go over to win the World Cup next year!

mr. sparkle wrote:I think most people would be surprised to learn that English is derived from German. The grammar is surprisingly similar, we just say "the" for masculine, feminine or neutral - but the cases are identical:

Dative.
Ich studierte Deutsch auf mein Universitat, aber vergass alle.
I would not mind living in Germany for a time, maybe my German would come back. Hamburg is my favorite "stadt" and I have a good friend there, old house Kristina. A former RTL TV newswoman, now running a Bikram Yoga studio.

I really like German, believe it or not. It's a cool language that is challenging to learn. Germans are overall really cool people, in my experience...very little bullshit - "tell it like it is" kind of folk. The only problem was when I tried my German out, they'd say, "Ja, Herr Sparkle, your German ist zo bad, zo we speak English together, ne?"
Dang!
I find it odd that both Germans and Japanese say "ne?" to see if you understood what they are saying.

Actually, not really. Only one is pure, unadulterated smut. The other is kind of wacky, one is way out weird and the last one is really kind of serious.

The Germans are a really rough and tough kind of folk. Tell it like it is straight away like you say. But Germany got 16 states and I would like to divide it into 3 sections- north, south and east. Every part got there own mentality and accent. If you never been in the south before, then you might notice the difference. The southern people are more into work and their image is to be stingy. The northern folks are like conservative and less into working.... And East Germany, forget it..![]()
