DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK

But I don't want you to end up with a blue eye or a bloody mouth... Besides, saying your daddy or your mum... can also be an aggressive meaning in German.

Well it depends on the situation. If somebody offense you with some unfriendly arguement - then reply with Dein Vater or Deine Mutter...

Example: Some Jerk: You are fat like fuc*ing cow - and you respond with Deine Mutter - ouuch.. that's kinda hard, and this simple meaning can also be harder then son of a bitch or any other word..

I look forward to trying out my new linguistic skills when the Socceroos go over to win the World Cup next year!

World Cup 2006 Germany V__(^_^)__V

Who's your fave team? Don't say Nippon. I think the French will have their revenge and perhaps the Germans are in the finals again with Brazil.

I bet a few hundred squids for Brazil as the winner for 2006.

My heart says the Socceroos! My head says a European team. Germany will be hard to beat at home. France have a lot to make up for too. So, though, do Argentina....I guess Germany.
I hope Nippon and the Aussies both make it (especially the Aussies), which is the same as winning it for both of us.

 I haven't seen the Aussies in the previous World Cups before or did I missed it.. :?: I can't remember. But you as an Aussie, I wish for my friend that their in game :P
France, they really need to wrap things up since they were loosing against Senegal in the first Playoff round 2002. I think South Korea will kick ass too. They beat Germany 3:1 in the Asia tour. Argentina, well I hope they show some soccer power again.
The Netherlands seem to improve and I really want to see England kicking ass.

Our only World Cup was in Germany(1974). We played (and lost 3-0 both times) both East and West Germany, before drawing 0-0 with Chile. If we make it (we always fall at the final stage when we need to beat teams like Argentina), I will be there.

Agree with you about France, England can die in hell, which they will do anyway, and the Dutch are always a chance. I like the Dutch because they always play beautiful football, which even the Brazilians can't say now. South Korea bribed their way into the semi-final last time, but they are the best team in Asia.

Don't get me wrong, but I thought the whole common wealth countries stick together :o
Matches such England VS Deutschland or Holland VS Deutschland, it's nearly a battle between those nations. You can see it in the Media. Especially English Media goes very hard on Germany. Let's Blitz, Fritz :P

South Korea is just amazing, I hope they make it through.

I love the English, I hate England.
England-Germany is always a great game, but the English media is the worst thing for its football team. Germany is always boring, but incredibly strong. We thrashed England when we played (3-1 in London, 2003). Hopefully, we'll be able to do the same to Germany, too! And to Holland for that matter.

What is the difference in pronounciation between

"Dein" and "Deine" when saying "Dein Vater" or "Deine Mutter"?

First of all I got to say that German is a hell difficult languange to master. There are a bunch of grammars to consider. The pros are, there's a few similarities between English. I don't know why so many people are studying German, especially the Japanese, East Europeans, Asians and so on.

Dein Vater - in this case dein is for male

Dein(e) Mutter - you just add an 'e' for females

For the above example dein/deine is specified for persons.

Dein is also used for objects, for example: Dein Fahrrad - note: there is no Deine Fahrrad - it doesn't matter who's bicycle belong to.

In English there's just your dad and your mum.

In fact: You only say dein/deine to your family, friends and those who are younger then you (if your talking to a kid or teenager etc) or at the same age. However if your not that polite then you just go ahead with dein/deine

The polite way, you have to say to people who aren't your friends, family members, to ppl who are much older, your chiefs, teachers etc.
Ihr Vater - Ihre Mutter however you seldom here that if somebody is cursing at you... they will rather say deine Mutter!! On the other hand Ihr Vater and Ihre Mutter ain't cursing words.

I think most people would be surprised to learn that English is derived from German. The grammar is surprisingly similar, we just say "the" for masculine, feminine or neutral - but the cases are identical:

Nominative
Genetive
Accusative
and the biggest bitch of all:
Dative.

Ich studierte Deutsch auf mein Universitat, aber vergass alle.

I would not mind living in Germany for a time, maybe my German would come back. Hamburg is my favorite "stadt" and I have a good friend there, old house Kristina. A former RTL TV newswoman, now running a Bikram Yoga studio.

http://www.bikramcityyoga.net/bikram.htm

I really like German, believe it or not. It's a cool language that is challenging to learn. Germans are overall really cool people, in my experience...very little bullshit - "tell it like it is" kind of folk. The only problem was when I tried my German out, they'd say, "Ja, Herr Sparkle, your German ist zo bad, zo we speak English together, ne?"

Dang!

I find it odd that both Germans and Japanese say "ne?" to see if you understood what they are saying. 8O

I am incredibly astound by the 'huge' amount of FG members who speak and like German. Of course I am really surprised by your German skill and your interest into it. How come you end up learning German?

old house Kristina. A former RTL TV newswoman, now running a Bikram Yoga studio. << Your kiddin me? Are you kind of a famous guy? :P

The Germans are a really rough and tough kind of folk. Tell it like it is straight away like you say. But Germany got 16 states and I would like to divide it into 3 sections- north, south and east. Every part got there own mentality and accent. If you never been in the south before, then you might notice the difference. The southern people are more into work and their image is to be stingy. The northern folks are like conservative and less into working.... And East Germany, forget it..

>Ne< is mostly used in the northern part of Germany and also used by individuals and some teens.
Have you ever been in Bavaria? Well I wonder if you could understand them. The same thing goes with Baden Wuerttemberg (where I live). But I don't use any accent at all, maybe a little.

Golden boy,
My nephew is German. My brother got a dorfer madchen pregnant many years ago during his years as a soldier. He lives not too far from Stuttgart. He likes tuners and American hip-hop.

Have not been to Deutschland since the late 80's. Yeah, I like the Hamburg mentality, though. All work and no play makes Sparkle a dull, dull boy. Should go visit the "Old House". One time she brought me to a party/road rally that lasted 3 days long.

Hamburg's Reperbahn- my place of pleasures and joys! Did you ever drop in the 'Mutter'- Mother? She was a stripper, is around 70 owns this little blue shop that looks like a mixture of Kiosk, bar and cafe on Reperbahn, she knows everybody and everybody adores her. Shes full of nasty words, gossip and just adorable. Guess she stripped for the beatles
If you ever go to Hamburg again, stop by there!

Reperbahn, the ultimate place for horny fuckers. I can remember where the Japanese businessman said "sugoi, sehr sehr gut!" - suddenly they dissapeared and they were pretty much in heat. I just wanted to drink tea with them and talk about various things... nevertheless they ended up in the jungle of fuck hotels and I had trouble to catch them again.

The 'mother', I heard about her, but it is also said that she slept with a Beattle in one room 8O during their stay in Hamburg.

Sillygirl, till now we've got so much exchange programs with the states. I find it great.

[color=blue]The Kristina thing confuses me...

Your actually my Swiss-German friend :P . Accent Hannover, mentality north... I thought you're more the southern-munich girl. Or you must be coming from the north-east 8O

Could you discribe my origin? My mentality is mixed, I've got an Asian heart and a European thinking, maybe I let out my southern accent a little bit.. but do you know where I really come from? :P
It's far east... somewhere in Asia..
