A deputy section chief at the municipal government here has been suspended from duty for a month for setting fire to the hair of a younger worker, officials said. The 54-year-old official has admitted to his actions. "I intended to warn him (against growing his hair too long)," he was quoted as telling his bosses. At around 9:30 a.m. on July 7, the deputy section chief approached a 22-year-old official from behind at the Suzu Municipal Government headquarters, and told him, "Your hair is too long," according to officials. He then used a cigarette lighter to set fire to the back part of the victim's hair. Part of his hair was burned but he was not injured in the incident. The two had previously worked in the same section.
