You're entirely right. I'm sorry about that. If anything, my crankiness is directed at myself -- regardless of the fact that I translate for a living and began learning this language 16 years ago (12 or so years of which have been pretty intensive), I'm still not where I want to be yet.

I hear that. Do I really need to know the term 閑地 (JLPT 1) insofar as agriculture is concerned? No, I probably don't ... but if it were ever to come up in conversation and I didn't understand it, I'd get cranky. Ugh.
