I think that is partly the point. In the Schodt piece that yellowlightman mentions, he points out the give and take in the industry and that's how Tezuka's family saw it. What Mitarai saw, however, was a Japanese company walking away from claiming a share of a half billion dollar asset which he knew from his own business experience that no US company would ever do.
