Japanese fans aghast at LOTR subtitles

Movies, TV, music, anime other random J-pop culture phenomenons. Also film/video production, technical discussion, cast and crew calls, etc.

One of the most serious in Fellowship, fans say, is that Toda simplifies Boromir as a two-dimensional villain. In his dying speech, she translates "My people" as "My species," a distortion of meaning that rings odd. Also, the truer translation used in the dubbed version used fewer kanji.
That's not all her fault... whoever did the editing for LOTR must have hacked out some great character pieces with Boromir, because I thought the original release made him look a little two-dimensional. Shouldn't the line have been "our people" since he was speaking to Aragorn (who is the king of that realm)? :?:
