Gold Leaf PC Case

From here

A gold-leaf PC case made by Antec is now on sale at Tsukumo in Tokyo. Hand-finished by craftsmen in Kanazawa , the case costs 49,800 yen but that may vary depending on movements in the gold price. Cases will be made-to-order and take 10-14 days to complete. The one in stock, which is on show, can be had immediately although shop staff were not optimistic that there would be a rush of buyers. Still, even adding the cost of a computer, it works out cheaper than spending 80 million yen on a PC in a diamond encrusted platinum case or 60 million yen for the gold version.

The shop insists that you can only properly appreciate the quality of the workmanship if you go and see it up close:

Do people do this in other countries. The past couple of days on Japan Today, they have had a couple of real conspicuous consumption pictures on their front page. One was a Benz covered in crystal, they other was a wedding dress and tiera that cost some 80 billion yen. Now you have gold leaf computer cases, not that pricey but highly dubious none-the-less. Do they think the otaku geeks are going to buy this to impress their blow up dolls?

In all seriousness, that PC looks like ass and any half decent LAN party would eat it alive.

It would look nice in a Japanese themed room.

Having said that, the P180 is an old model antec and the P182 is newer.
Maybe an elaborate stunt to get rid of new stock?

Still, desktops aren't popular these days. Anyone who has tried to sell a mid-tower computer in Japan these days will tell you that.

Meh. Last time I was in Akihabara it seemed that most people who were building their own systems were leaning more towards what western gamers were doing for casemods - ex. cutting holes in the case an applying fans with chrome grating or windows with laser etching (or facsimile of it) and lots of LEDs.

However, for that kind of money and considering the kinds of customers that would buy a case in the first place, I would imagine this would probably be more to their liking:
