kamome wrote:Oh, so your choice of what is worth such devotion is better than FGL's? I'm sure you would say that religion is more worthy than anything, but that's no more valid than sports or movies to many people.
I agree with FGL that anime as entertainment is usually fine but that's not what we're talking about. We're talking about cosplay and similar manifestations of an obsession with anime. People who obsess on it (especially adults) are fucked up. It's not a defense of their obsession to say that they are harmless - I'm sure they are harmless - but that doesn't obviate the fact that they are engaging in creepy, immature behavior not befitting a normal person their age.

And while some anime is quite dreadful and one wonders who on earth would enjoy it, it is no worse than trying to fathom why millions of people watch NASCAR racing every week (it is just cars going around and around in a oval people!). Few people seem to notice the 'cosplay' aspects of many fans of professional sports as well....At least anime cosplayer usually have to make some of their outfit, while sports fans just fork over fistfuls of cash for the official NFL jersey of what ever latest thugged up, steroid juiced, side of beef with a 6th grade reading level who is popular/out on bail at the moment.

I say leave them to it - may not be your cup of ocha but then I think that my hobbies wouldn't be appealing to some people either. Each to their own.. live and let live.. eat more mung beans.... any other cliches I can mention?

But kids walking around town dressed as anime characters when there is no con in town IS crossing the line.
American Oyaji wrote:FGL, chill out man. It aint that serious. As you pointed out, I DO indeed agree with you for the most part. I'm merely pointing out don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, nantoka.

Anyway... Back to the real world for me.
Known throughout the world as the top electronic gadget district and as a favorite spot for computer geeks, Akihabara is gaining an embarrassing reputation for criminal activity that is causing concern among police and local residents.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Manseibashi Police Station said about 500 criminal offenses were reported in 2005 as a result of the rapid transformation of the district in recent years.
Takashi Kogure, president of the federation of neighborhood associations in the Manseibashi district, said Akihabara, or Akiba for short, "used to see few people after 8 p.m., but it is now becoming a town that doesn't sleep."
But even as Akihabara's reputation as a testing ground for exciting new technology has grown, its popularity has also led to worrying offshoot developments....more...
HIS International Tours has started offering its own Japanese Pop Culture Tours under the Destination Japan banner. HIS was previously the travel partner of Pop Japan Travel, which placed its tours on hiatus this year.
Earl Gertawen of HIS (formerly of Pop Japan Travel) informed ANN that, in addition to its first Destination Japan tour in September, HIS expect to operate several Japanese pop culture tours per year, although the exact number remains to be determined.
Destination Japan's first tour is the "Summer Maximum" tour, from September 17 to 23. The tour costs $1799 ($1599 until July 17) plus taxes, and tourers will visit the Tokyo Game Show. Gertawen states that "Destination Japan can offer competitive prices because we're part of a travel agency."
One of the features of the Summer Maximum tour is the "Japan Experience" segment, which allows participants to chose one of several Japan Experience tours such as "Who wants to be a Samurai," "Make your own Sushi," and "Taiko Drumming." Japan Experience is a separate tour group operated by HIS Japan, sister company of HIS International.
Preliminary information about Destination Japan is available from its website.
Destination Japan is the second new Japanese pop culture tour company to be launched in recent months, with Intermixi Japan Tours forming last month. Intermixi Japan Tours also features former staff of Pop Japan Travel.

What's more, shops selling sexually explicit anime DVDs and electronic games are displaying signboards adorned with naked girls in plain view of a nearby elementary school.

craxican wrote:ok i already told the cosplay people to hang themselfs in another thread, but i will rant one more time.
i watch anime on a low level basis and i play street fighter like a mad man, but you will NEVER see me dressed up as ryu or ken, EVER. if you are older than 13 and you dress up as a character when it is not Halloween, you need to quit jacking off over some cartoons and jump into some pussy or sit on a dick (ya that sounds wierd)
for the girls dressed up like maids, they will either become massuses, (ya i spelled that wrong) or some type of hostess. i mean, it is damn sexy, i wouldn't mind banging 4 or 5 of them at a time, but they sort of cross the line when it comes to their "casual" attire. but i would have to check their ID just in case, i dont wanna hook up wid some 15 year old, but that maid shit is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to tempting
the same goes for those over tanned, over make uped, harajuku kids. STOP! ya it is a form of fasion, ya you should be able to express it, but god damn. i cant say anymore about that, those kids are just to easy to make fun of, just wouldn't be fun.
just go hang your selfs please. and for those otaku gaijin that dress up like cartoons, fuck off and dont try to defend yourself on this thread, just save your finger strength for you anime mag in the toilet. make sure you clean up and dont leave any jiz spots anywhere.
