Hmm, I'm detecting a pattern here. Wild guess, but did John Lennon have a thing for Asian girls?

I think the Beatles were the best thing to happen to poular music, and have never been rivaled(not in diversity of music/lyrics, anyway). However, I have never seen Ono as an enemy. That's for fanatics. furthermore, it was probaly a blessing that they stopped when they did. Perhaps the Stones could have done with a 'Yoko Ono'...
As for singing ability, Bob Dylan has never been a great singer, but he is(was?) still a fucking (pardon my french) genius. Not that I'm comparing Ono's talent to Dylan's, but singing technique is not everything.Personally, I thought "Walking on thin ice" was pretty cool.

Dude,
Who hit you on the head with a rock? Yoko Ono was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back..

She destroyed the Beatles... sure if not her, it would have been something else.. but maybe just maybe had she not been around they could have rocked on like the Rolling Stones. I enjoy going to their concerts and am glad they have kept at it.

She is a mooch.. who sucked from the fruit of Lennon's loins and is even draining his spirit after his death while on the verge of her own. She should be ashamed of it. And she is rutheless when it comes to managing his estate.. though I don't blame her much for that...
but to interject herself into a video that she was never involved in in the first place is spiteful and just the type of thing to make me a mortal enemy of hers forever.

It'd take a real piece of conartistry to liken Ono to Bob Dylan and pull it off... you'd have more success finding Atlantis.

Dear BB,
As I said, I wasn't comparing Dylan's talent to Ono's. Do yourself a favour and read my posts before replying
As for Ono's antics(those she's accused of), they don't really make any difference to the fact, that the Beatles split up when and how they did. They started drifting apart before Ono met Lennon. I'm glad you still enjoy 'rocking' to the Stones, but I, for one am glad the Beatles didn't end up a bunch of ageing rockers(even if they did individually).
I don't defend pop stars or any kind of star, including Ono. However, I dislike fanatical blabberings :love2:

Another musical revival for Yoko Ono

Postby kamome » Tue May 18, 2004 1:09 pm

Another Musical Revival for Yoko Ono

I just thought Steve B. would get a kick out of knowing that Yoko Ono has become a remix diva in the same vein as Cher and Madonna:

Fast forward to now, and "Hell in Paradise" is the latest vintage Ono track to be remixed for today's club culture. It follows in the footsteps of "Open Your Box," "Walking on Thin Ice" and others...The timing could not be better to revisit "Hell in Paradise." Consider the song's first verse: "This is hell in paradise/We're all asleep or paralyzed/Why are we scared to verbalize/Our multicolor dreams."...Now, consider the song's second verse: "When will we come to realize/We're all stoned or pacified/While the boogie men organize/Their multilevel schemes."
...
Wholly confirmed are remixes of yet another Ono recording: "Every Man Has a Woman Who Loves Him," which is culled from John Lennon (news) and Ono's 1980 album "Double Fantasy."...
For its new incarnation, Ono recut vocals in light of the current gay marriage debate. So, in addition to its original title, there is now "Every Man Has a Man Who Loves Him" and "Every Woman Has a Woman Who Loves Her" -- as well as "Every Woman Has a Man Who Loves Her."
...
Labels take note: The track and its feisty remixes -- courtesy of Blow-Up, Basement Jaxx, Dave Aude, the Passengerz, Ralphi Rosario, DJ Vibe and Murk -- are currently without a label to call home.

Yoko Ono 'scratching the bottom'

Postby Taro Toporific » Fri Oct 29, 2004 4:25 pm

Ono OKs Lennon Acoustic Disc
6:38pm 10/28/04 CBS News]
(AP) Yoko Ono knows she could probably release old recordings of John Lennon yodeling and there would be market for it.
Outtakes, musical flubs or subpar recordings may generate sales....
<snip>
..."I do know that there are more songs that I have, but they're all very important songs," she said, "and they have to be put out in a way where it's not just scratching the bottom of the barrel."

"Nothing" in this case is extemely questionable. She is the daughter of a fairly influencial banker of the time and the granddaughter of one of the last head's of the Yasuda Zaibatsu. The access to money in her immediate family before, and after, the war was, and remains great. If you count fame and success as people knowing your name, she may have needed John, but even without him, she might just have had enough hyakuen damas to buy a bit of sushi the next day.

Her affect on the Beatles was great and caused the many the problems that could have very well caused the break-up. She also may well remain a hog (at least in my eyes), but I don't think it can be said that she did it all for John's cash!

Yoko Ono Concert Warning

Postby homesweethome » Wed Oct 05, 2005 6:26 pm

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20051004/ennew_afp/afpentertainmentjapan_051004114250

The 72-year-old said she will sing Beatles songs solo for the first time at Friday's concert, something she felt both "embarrassed and thrilled" about.

The avant-garde Japanese artist, born to a wealthy Tokyo family and largely educated in the United States, has always enjoyed a wider following overseas than in Japan.

A wider following??? John was the only one that could ever stand to listen to her sing.

she's also a decent artist, but her singing Beatles songs sounds pretty awfull. She's at her best when she yodeling with Thurston Moore and Ikue Mori or something like that, not skating on the thin ice of pop music.

That's bull and you know it. The band had already been drifting apart on their own accord; Yoko just happened to be there.

And I am pumped about this. Her music is awesome. She and William Shatner should sing a duet sometime.

Seconded. Her Rising albums were pretty cool, especially that awesome remix of "Talking to the Universe" by Cibo Matto.

She just performed in LA at the Art Park, along with Sonic Youth. Cool show!

She is influential in the creation of Revolution # 9 which was a cornerstone in bridging avant-garde to pop music and bringing collage in sound and tape loops to the public's attention. Some of her coolest music is very obscure but indeed excellent. One example of this is her work with a band called the Tater Tots on the album Alien Sleastacks from Brazil.

She stays in New York even after her husband's murder and 9/11. God Bless Her! Plus she's 70 now and still looks pretty damn good.

Have you ever seen this thing where she had strangers from the audience come up and cut her clothes off with scissors? It's cool.

Yoko Ono Is A Witch

Postby Mulboyne » Fri Feb 09, 2007 8:19 am

[floatr]Image[/floatr]Pitchforkmedia review of " Yes, I'm a Witch" by Ono
...The presumable aim of this collection, after all, is to make Ono's case as a vocalist, songwriter, and thinker to more potential fans. And the truth is that Ono's already appreciated-- maybe even pigeonholed-- as a "difficult" musician: icy shrieker, primal screamer, conceptual artist...Cloud the air further with the disgusting level of mockery and abuse she gets for the sin of having been so cool that even John Lennon was bowled over, and it's easy to forget how much of her work was only incidentally challenging, how much of it was in every sense conceived as popular music...Digging into the Ono catalog will be an easy joy, not difficult at all, far more warm and inviting than the world's mean-spirited caricatures of her would suggest...more...

More Yoko Ono threads here, here, here, and here.

Nice to see she is still at it attempting to be a musician. Imagine if she had not married John Lennon. My guess is at her age she would be on the NHK Sunday afternoon Karaoke program shreiking away while the commentators politely applauded.

I think she's a goat.. or maybe a witch... quite possibly a witch goat... but her art is interesting.. she's like a darkside in Star Wars to me... she managed to persuade Luke to join though. ;) I guess a little poonanny is as powerful as the force.
