Some Opposition To The Idea Of Votes For Foreigners

Postby Mulboyne » Mon Sep 28, 2009 6:00 am

[YT]tTyANPKCczc[/YT]

The uploader of this YouTube clip says it features a demonstration in Akihabara by some 500 opponents of the DPJ's proposal to allow permanent residents to vote in local elections. It turned ugly when they spotted a man carrying a placard opposing them. Some of the demonstrators then surrounded him and a few seemed to give him a few slaps. The original clip appears to have been uploaded by a participant in the demo who was happy that the "left winger" was given a rousting. He appears to have had second thoughts about making it public and subsequently deleted. This version has been reposted by a YouTube user who copied the first clip.

Why don't they go back to their own Country and protest?

One thing leads to another:

First, they'll want the right to vote, then they'll want to right to have kids and get citizenship, and then they'll want the right to run for politcal office, then they'll start lobbying to make Japan formally apologize for the "atrocities" of the Sino-Japanese War in Manchuria and WWII.

Japan is best at remaining "Japanese" - that's what makes it unique.

That was such a childish, idiotic statement, I'll just pass on that one for now. Unbelievable.

No Man, it's true.

You can't think of Japan like America.

America was built on a Constitution of "Freedom" and "Equality"

Japan was built on the Soul of the Emperor.

I've monitored this website a long time before I joined, and I've seen the opinions of some of the posters, and the perception is that "All Asian's are the Same."

Well, that is not true.

You can't simply believe all Asian's are the same because they have slant eyes and black strait hair.

Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese, and Japanese are Asian - yes, but they are totally different in culture and their way of thinking.

I've been in and out of Asia longer than some of you have been alive, and I can tell you that there is a HUGE difference between Japanese and other Asian Countries, and mainly that is due to their cultural upbringing.

Koreans and Chinese are stingy and selfish cultures that honor nothing but what they can get out of the "right now" in life and that is really what concerns me when it comes to their persistance on moving in to one the The Best Countries in the entire World (Japan).

Take from somone who knows better, leave those Koreans and Chinese where they belong: As vistors in Japan.

dude you're a racist retard. You might as well teach fishes how to swim while you're at it. If a Chinese zainichi go to China, he's Japanese, not Chinese, even though he's ethnically Chinese.

Of course there are cultural differences between Asians, but you actually believe these delusionally pejorative statements that you're making about other Asians? Soul of the Emperor? WTF. Go back to whatever uyoku dantai slime you crawled out of. This kind of thinking is perverted and sad.

As I said before, you gaijins should seriously consider that there is no China next to Europe and America unlike Japan. And originally DPJ's immigration policy is an order from Chinese government which is a DPJ's main sponsor. Regarding this issue, Euro-American foreigners are something additional or not even considered from the beginning. It is Zainichi Korean and future Zainichi Chinese, which breed like cockroach, that we Japanese have been taking into serious consideration in this matter. We must not make Japan the second California or Netherland.

While I am just going to ignore this guys comments because people have already said what I wanted to say, back to the topic at hand.

I personally believe that if you have lived in a country for a decent length of time, like 5 years or so and pay taxes to the government, I believe that you should be granted some say in the how the goverment works. Considering the percentage of foreigners living in Japan how could this really affect politics? I think this would only be an issue where there are high concentrations of Brazilians, Chinese, or Koreans.
I am not really sure where I am going, I just hope that when I get there, I can sit down because I am sure my feet will be tired.

I assume that you speak for all Japanese on this....given the continuing influx of Western (California-bred Mickey Mice, etc.) products, thought, etc., into Japan, lots of J-folks seem to want to model their lives after their slant of what Californa is.
Given the Japanese penchant for hiding their true feelings, glossing over the truth, etc., it often seems that Japan is the biggest Hollywood set on earth.

Just look at the great state of People's Republic of California. The flaming liberals needed easy votes and gave those illegals amnesty and the right to vote and look at where they are at now. They are fucked big time and nothing can be done to reverse it now.

I've noticed that the kind of Chinese and Koreans that Japanese people hate are usually not the ones that decide to Immigrate to Japan in the first place though, so i don't see why all the opposition.

... The Allies didn't have a whole lot to do with it, they were pretty neutral on the subject of Women's Rights. It was the interpreter, Beate Sirota Gordon, who pressed the issue. She understood more multicultural aspects about Japan than perhaps any fluent English speaker at that time. If not for her stubborn commitment to Women's Rights, the allies probably would have let the Japanese remove the articles.

What Greji is saying is that if you have any domesticated farm animals that like to dress up and wear lipstick, offer them up and you'll be swimming in green snot.

I was 2 into the red until that post just now... perhaps a bug? odd... well nevermind.

Back to the original topic, I'm not real surprised that guy got mobbed... If anyone watched some of the recent D.C. Tea Party footage, there was a supporter who walked into the middle of the protesters... he needed like 8 cops surrounding him to leave the area. If not for those officers, I'm pretty sure the result would have been similar to this clip. Whether in the US or Japan, ignorant people are quick to resort to physical action.

I don't recall anyone saying that! I think you are overstating that point and taking it way out of context. Most people here are slightly intelligent enough and probably know the difference between Chinese, Koreans and Japanese. Wise up!

Hikonejou wrote:Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese, and Japanese are Asian - yes, but they are totally different in culture and their way of thinking.

Let me also add that the food is quite different too and in Korea and most parts of China, people drive on the Right side of the road and the cars steering is on the Left! Just wanted to help you out a bit.

Koreans and Chinese are stingy and selfish cultures that honor nothing but what they can get out of the "right now" in life and that is really what concerns me when it comes to their persistance on moving in to one the The Best Countries in the entire World (Japan).

Tommy, this is at least the second time I've seen you post that illegal aliens have the right to vote in California. As I'm pretty sure you know, this is not true.

There are known cases where illegal aliens were able to vote due to shoddy procedures, and it is clear that law enforcement authorities did not necessarily follow up well on some cases. Perhaps this is what you were referring to? That does not make it a "right" - the act was still illegal.

Tommy, I really don't have the time or inclination to do research to find evidence backing up your point (which is wrong), but on the opposite side:

1) The U.S. Constitution basically says only citizens have the right to vote (and this is in matters of federal elections)

2) Here is a Wikipedia article mentioning cases where local governments in the U.S. have allowed non-citizens to vote. Note that California has no such law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_of_foreigners_to_vote_in_the_United_States#California

The only evidence I see anywhere about illegal aliens voting in California come from rapid frothing-at-the-mouth right wing blogs, which mention (I assume accurately) some past cases where voting fraud was detected.

I also see messages expressing concern that illegal aliens with legal photo IDs might erroneously be allowed to vote. But there is no evidence this is actually happening, and again, it is certainly not a "right" even if this fraud is happening. It is still against the law.

If you think there is some obscure, kooky, unconstitutional law on the books in California that allows non-citizens the right to vote, which nobody else seems to know about, it's your job to come up with the evidence. Not my job to prove it does not exist.
