The way nobody speaks English. I mean, you'd think they think they're living in Japan or something. What nerve! This is ExpatLand, by, for, and of Ex Pats.

Or at the party with attendant hostesses, they give you a thimble sized glass, which only the hostess, who is serving 20 other people, can fill up. You can bloody well die of thirst waiting for a hit!

I love sausages and the like but I'll be damned if I can find any good sausages in this country. Not without paying an arm and a leg for them. Bacon also, I don't know what the hell the stuff they try to pass off as bacon, but its nothing I've had before.

To complement the lack of good cheese, you can't get a good whole wheat loaf of bread or a good bagel to save your life.

Real bread that is sliced in a normal way. Oh how I would kill for some pumpernickle or rye now. I actually found rye one day at Valor, but it was infused with hotdogs, frosting, and featured something I would call "dried ketchup" on it.

The way that I have to go to the fucking post office whenever I need cash is fun too. Modern and international country my ass, I can get cash out of most ATMs in China, even in small cities, without any hassle at all.

The lack of good pickles is something that gets on my nerves as well. This country pickles everything BUT cucumbers it seems. How I would kill for a vlassic dill spear to go with a hotdog that plumped when I cooked it, and placed within a real hotdog bun... enjoyed on a hot summer day.

Its not really complaining about Japan or Japanese people. Just the shit that you have to face in Daily life. I am sure Japanese would not be writing home about the great Sushi they bought in Tescos in the UK.

There is so much Japan bashing here I seldom read this site anymore. It's not just bitching it's outright racism - OK I get it, you hate the Japanese. At any rate this site has become really tedious.

Now you're overreacting.

This thread is ok but there has definitely been a more racist tone on here lately mostly thanks to blackcat and Buraku.

There are different types of posters here. I try to avoid the culture shock victim hates Japan posts myself, and read the ones that are about funny or odd things instead.

It will get better in the fall when the people who actually have lives, (unlike me) return. I'm bitchy because I have jet lag. I'm also starting to see the humor in what happened to me at the Detroit airport.

I wear baggy jeans, had to take my shoes and my belt off to get through screening. I also had to take my laptop out of the case etc etc. At the end of the screening you're supposed to instantly get dressed to avoid holding up the line, but I had too much to do so I decided to move elsewhere and dress. I grabbed all my stuff and I could feel my pants slipping, but I thought I could make it.

I couldn't and my jeans fell down around my ankles like an episode of "Are you being served." If that wasn't bad enough in my haste to get my pants back up I dropped a tray with my change in it which just drew even more attention to me.

Every time I make that trip it gets worse. By the time I get to Nagoya airport I'm already tired from hours of walking to various trains, the tension of dealing with the language gap (which isn't shrinking at all - do they keep changing Japanese just to piss me off?) , last nites beer etc.

By the time I arrived in Detroit it was like a disaster site, one guy passed out in front of me he managed to sit up but then just stayed seated on the floor in a daze. No one could make him move - (probably blood sugar crash). Everyone had morning hair and bad breath, The little Gestapo agents at the customs bureau were so freaking annoying. There were some young kids (like 3yr olds) acting up and one prick acted like it was a national security breech. He was so rude and it made everyone feel "icky." I mean being an omnipotent custom agent doesn't remove you from the human race, kids are kids even if your King. It was like "Welcome back to America, comrade."

My backpack and laptop together weighed about 40 pounds, plus my suitcase. I was dragging ass buddy haha. Then there were so many wheel chairs! When I see a wheel chair I think paralyzed, don't you? But one middle aged guy I saw riding in a wheel chair later on whizzed by on foot, Talk about milking the system. I have to go first class next time so I can sleep.

I think any site called "Fucked Gaijin" can tolerate a poster going off on a rant once in a while but I've always thought that most people reading and contributing probably have a decent sense of humour and can get bored very quickly by constant claims of "that's why they're all sushiheads and they'll never change". That doesn't really tell us anything, make us laugh or help us understand a problem that we can help with. One of the most enjoyable features of FG is when people poke fun at some of the absurdities and eccentricities of Japan: aspects of the country that strike us as odd because of our own backgrounds and shared experiences of learning about the country.

No-one should draw too many conclusions about Japan and Japanese people mainly based on what appears in the press and on television - and especially not on what crops up on the internet. You can certainly learn a lot about how the publishing and TV industries work and the resulting editorial policies. You can also draw useful conclusions about uses and abuses of the net. However, it's important to consider the broader context. For instance, some of the stories showing Japan in a bad light would never have appeared in the local media in years gone by so their very presence and, often, translation into other languages, speaks volumes about changes in Japan. Or at least the existence of a more active debate than critics will concede.

Japan has changed greatly over the years I have been involved. As has virtually every other country I know well. Happily, enough stays the same that long experience here does count for something - the good things continue to impress and stimulate while the bad aspects frustrate in ever devious ways. Hopefully both of those experiences make it onto this board.

Here's a novel concept, this country has some nice points and many other aspects which any sane, modern country would would consider fucking stupid. If you don't discuss that shit, it just festers. And on the racism comment, no not really, but who the fuck cares? The Japanese are more racist than I will ever be... boohoo.. poor japanese toymakers

Yea sorry NeoNecro I wasn't implying you or your thread were racist. I'm slow but it suddenly dawned on me we probably have some Chinese FG' here. China is in no position to judge anyone, IMO.

So back to the topic: The "kawaisa" of girls gets on my nerves. Blowing up their cheeks and pursing their mouths until they look like hamsters? What's that about? Leaving their teeth crooked because it "looks cute." Maybe when your 15 the glow of youth can overcome some crooked teeth, but nothing will help them when they are 40.

The constant belief that all Americans are fat and all we eat is Snickers bars and Cokes. Or that we live on a diet of bread.

P.S. to devicenull: Dude I know all that stuff, I'd have to be blind to miss it. What distresses me is when people lump every single Japanese person into one group. Japanese are like any other race, some are good, some are smart, some are bad some are stupid, etc.

As an American, I never owned a slave or killed an Indian so I'm not going to apologize. In the whole country of Japan there are maybe 20 people left alive who killed someone during the Nanking massacre. Pick on them (again not you per se) not the entire country.
