Chinpokomon

Postby Somerandomgaijin » Sun Jul 24, 2005 11:41 pm

Is anyone a fan of South Park? If so, try the Chinpokomon Espisode. It pokes (a little) fun at Japan/fads.
Hilarious.

BTW do you know what chinpokomon means in Japanese? That's why it's so funny. Here's a hint, ko is a counter for small items.

Too bad that episode is going on almost 3 years old. America has more of a "japan" fetish now than it did then, just check out "cartoon network" on any given day or watch saturday morning cartoons. The american audience will predictably peak their interest in the subject in about 6 months then everyone will try to forget they were a part of it when the new fad comes out.

i gave a loan of a couple studio ghibli dvds to some cousins and they never got around to watching it cause they assumed it was of the same caliber of the shite thrown on 'toonami' (pokemon, digimon, card-captors...)

i had to give a 10 min lecture on why they should sit down and watch miyazaki classics

South Park Metrosexual

Postby Scott » Mon Jul 25, 2005 9:16 am

The BEST South Park commentary on Japan was in the metrosexual-theme episode (the crab people). One angry, metro-dressed guy insults another man's clothes by saying, "You have the fashion-sense of a Japanese woman."

Perfect.

Peter: Satan's army has crossed over the Plains of Limbo!
Gabriel: Then they will be here on the morrow. Without Kenny's soul here there will be nobody who can use the holy PSP.
Uriel: No! There is another. A Japanese boy did make it to level fifty-nine.
Michael: [thinks for a moment] Are you stupid, Uriel? Japanese people don't have souls!
Angel 9: Yeah
Angel 10: Yeah
Angel 11: Yeah
Angel 12: Yeah, Uriel!
Uriel: Oh, right right, I'm sorry

Or, you could break it in the middle and it becomes "chinpo" and "komon" which is an entirely new ball game to that end!

Do they still have SP reruns on comedy central (cable)?
They should be at least season 5 or 6 by now but I never have the chance to see it.

I think they stuck the chinpokoMON just to rhyme with pokeman. One of those guys Matt or Trey studied Japanese during college (which explains why he went insane)

For instance, any child exploring the most popular Pokemon websites " 2 will be linked to a selection of occult games such as Sailor Moon, Star Wars, and others more overtly evil.

Time Flies

When living in Japan for 3 years, one tends to lose touch of current music/movies/commercials...
Sorry about the "rule."

Actually I think a sizeable portion of the SP staff consists of Japanese-Americans, but parker also shared a room at uni with a japanese-american:
I was about 21 when I made "American History." I had a roommate who
was Japanese and used to explain American history to me all the time,
and I was like, "That's the most fucked-up thing I've ever
heard. I've got to amimate something to that." I was in animation
class at Colorado U, and it came tio be the end of the term and the
history professor was like, "You need to write an essay," and I was
like, "Oh, cn't I do a little animated thing instead?" and like,
"Okay." I just turned the tape recorder on and told this guy
[roomate], "Tell me about American history," and he just went off. Of
course, I waited unti]
and then stayed up all night and did that piece of [expletive] .... I
got this announcement out of nowhere about months later that I'd won
a student academy award for it.
