I wanna get my DANCE on

Postby kdynamic » Fri May 16, 2003 3:14 pm

I am a college student moving to Kyoto for a year. Here in the US, I am very involved in the music scene, night clubs, and especially DANCING. I know that the nightlife in Japan is world famous, but everything I hear is about Tokyo. So I'm wondering, is there good nightlife in Kyoto? I hear that there is, since it's somewhat of a daigakuseinomachi. Anyone know any good spots? And does anyone have tips on having a good time going out as a gaijin girl who definitely won't blend in? Is it expensive or dangerous to go out? How common is it for college age kids to go out clubbing on weeeknds?

Thanks!

You can get your groove on at any major station.. You can probably pick up and join one of the many great street dance artists all over Japan. Several I see in front of Motomachi and Sannomiya in Kobe.. you should fit right in.
:D

Hope you've brushed up on break dancing, cause that is the flavor of the month over here :D

You will need to be pro-active, it's easy to let Japanese culture overcome you. If you can't speak Japanese (and you can't) even buying a hamburger becomes a major event, especially in that part of Japan.

Despite what you may have heard NO ONE speaks English, nothing is written in English (except a few JR station names) So when you find a crew you should try and attach yourself to them within the first 3 weeks of arrival. Remember all the rules of Japanese politeness exist even in urban culture, they are just not as pronounced. There will still be a group leader who you have to ass kiss, etc, etc, etc.

It sounds fun, Damn, I wish I was you.

WTF. It seems like Orbient is out of business now.
Another club gone..
I wonder what's going to replace it next.
