Hi, I found this site while trying to find the meaning of "nakate", which I think is a verb or something. I had been looking for a good site about foreigners to Japan talking about Japanese stuff also, so this was a nice suprise. Unfortunetly, I have only spent about two weeks in Japan, even though those were the best two weeks of my life. In the future I hope to become involved in some sort of international buisiness / marketing in or related to Japan, even though I am a little scared of somehow getting fucked over in some way.

Postby hellosalaryman » Thu Sep 29, 2005 3:45 am

hello im hellosalaryman!!!!

i was just looking at random posts here before, then decided to become an FG member. ive been to tokyo in the past, for a month, yet knew no japanese when i went (not like u really need it to make it by there tho). i am taking second year japanese at uc irvine in california, and will be graduating this summer. my japanese is pretty good for my level, but kanji always kill me, so if anyone has a really good flashcard program for macs lemme know, or any other japanese learning programs for that matter.

i was originally going to study abroad in japan during college, but ended up not having a high enough gpa to qualify for the program (since i got a D in Japanese, of all classes). after i graduate this next summer i will be moving to japan. not sure where yet, altho im thinking i may want to just travel all over at first, then decide on a place and have my stuff sent out then. ill probably need your guys' help when this time comes. [we should make a moving to japan walkthrough for gaijins like myself]

I believe you will find this flashcard system is considered the best, and can be used by both Mac and PC users (and even linux users).

Not to rain on your parade - or to state the obvious - but you DO know that J-Immigration doesn't like it when people come to Japan on a tourist visa and then just stay put, right? This isn't like moving from California to Oregon. You'll have 90 days to get yourself a job and a work visa (or any one of the types of visas listed at http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/03.html). Otherwise you'll have to hop back home before your 90 days are up.

Anyway I'm sure some of the fine folks here at FG will offer you lots of advice on getting a visa once you decide what you want to do in Japan.
