Wow your Mum must really love you. Be happy.

My Mum does similar things - they just don't understand the geography.

The real question is ..why haven't you called your Mum in two weeks naughty boy? For shame!

Here are photos of the weather starting to get bad.

US1, one of the most busy highways in Florida, is nearly empty.

A closed fuel station is a very rare site in South Florida.

There is at least one business that would not close even for a hurricane.

Wild Weather

Postby kurohinge1 » Mon Sep 06, 2004 12:36 pm

We've been watching images of Florida on the news but, yesterday (for a very short period), we copped our own crazy weather in Sydney ...

Image

After the hail storm eventually passed, the streets looked like Sapporo in March, although it melted within about 30 minutes. 8O

It's the Attack of the neo-proto-Nippo El Nino! I wonder how lbertSiegel-san is riding out the storm since he must have lost his internet connection by now?

That's too cruel Kurohinge! Why are you posting snow pix to torture me? This is the 4th month month of TOO HOT weather here.

Sorry Taro-san. Don't worry, you're only moments away from ... Image

I was just excited about finally getting to use the "Traction Assist" button (for snow & ice) for the first time, in our 4 year-old Astra. Although it is a common car sold by Holden here, they're apparently made by Opel in Germany, hence the "useful" features like "traction assist" and thermal bags to keep the battery snug and warm but the lack of essential Aussie stuff like cool air conditioning (which is an "extra" :!: ). At least I know now that the 'traction assist' does work - without it we were wheel-spinning like crazy everytime I even looked at the accelerator.

Anyway, I'll now return this thread to it's normal viewing ...

Is someone out to kill me? Is this the work of Soviet Supreme? There is another hurricane on the way! This makes it the fourth one to hit florida in less than two months if it does indeed hit us.... 8O

As for how I did... Damage was minimal at and near my home.

Some people were still in a panic at the supermarket once it had opened. Everyone was running to find milk, meat and D-size batteries.

I am well and have nothing to worry about at the moment. Everything is back to normal in my home. I will keep my home protected in the event that the next hurricane does come next week. I will know more by thursday.

Glad to see you're ok Albert, now us folks in Alabama will get a dose of it(here around Birmingham we'll probably get some bad thunderstorms). Hope the next Hurricane misses you.

Hey Kaibutsu! How did you do? Any damage?

I am stunned that we have yet another hurricane hitting near my area again! I think someone really hates Florida.

Evil Pongi, is this the work of your weather machine?

To quote C3P0,
"Here we go again!"

BTW, don't feel bad about your mom trackin you down. Mothers do that.
I was in basic training and in the middle of a training session, a runner comes and informs me that I'm to report to the chapel immediately.

My mom was worried cuz she hadnt heard from me. HELLO!! It's basic training!!

And everytime Japan had an earthquake that made the news, I'd get a phone call from home. Usually when I was asleep.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.

You Americans need to take your country back

Postby japslapper » Sun Sep 26, 2004 6:12 am

I am back in the UK at the moment - and my best Japan FG buddy is a US dude from Florida - he also is back home and luckily enough for him got back in time to enjoy Hurricane Ivan and all the others.......

Anyway just after Ivan blew through he phoned to ask what the Brit news was saying about events in Florida (his interent was down but his terrestial TV was ok) - I told him that the BBC had said something about 200-people being killed - he was supprised - CNN/ABC was saying nothing at all even when his town of Pensacola in N.Florida had its supermarket car park turned into a morgue - my buddy rekoned 150 people in his town alone had lost their lives - second floor of the local hospital gone - most homes on his street destroyed - the local US airbase evacuated thus no military to help and total news "blackout"......bit odd?? 8O 8O Totally dishonest - but I suppose it is election year

Are Evil Pongi and Soviet Supreme out to destroy Florida? Is this a plot by Rob Pongi to make me move back to Japan? Or is it just that time of the year when the gods want to sink Florida under the sea?

Yes boys and girls, another storm is on it's way to get me. Will I survive another storm? Stay tuned.....

Hey, how about typhoon Mawar bearing down on Tokyo?

The warningsare for, "wind gusts as high as 202 kilometers (125 miles) per hour, prompting warnings of high seas and heavy rains, flight cancellations and preventing refiners from shipping oil." 6:49pm JST, Aug. 25 (Bloomberg)...."Typhoon Warning Center said the waves generated by Mawar, which means ``rose'' in Malaysian, are as high as 31 feet (9.4 meters)."

Let's have a race and see who ends up under water first!

Mawar is a monster, Katrina is a weak storm even thouh she is expected to have 120kph winds before it hits land. Goo luck to both of us!

Is anyone going to post any pictures of the storm? I have tons of space on my server if anyone needs someplace to keep large photos of the typhoon.

When's this thing supposed to peak in Tokyo, anyways? All it's done so far is blow little breezes and rain off and on (though it's more on than off right now) all day.

Is there going to be any storm in this storm?

Our apartment building caretaker is always warning my days in advance to tie all chairs and table on my balcony together to avoid them flying away! I always end up dissappointed. I would love to see them old chairs go! Will see what happens during the night...

We'll see.

I've got a big window right next to my bed that always gets drummed when it rains. If it's a real storm, it might wake me up.

Nothing much happened. It was a glancing hit. A liitle flooding, a couple surf sightseers missing...no fun. :(
